    Connecting new DPC to existing...

Thanks DAZB so I need to rake out 100mm into the existing wall and overlap new with existing. I haven't got an architect, submitted my own plans to building control where I mentioned that new DPC will meet old which was approved, but I see plenty of videos where the builders do not rake out the...

What grade concrete for raft foundation/

Hi all Soon I will order the concrete for my 22m2 raft foundation. The raft will support a single story part blockwork part timber extension. My structural engineer says C25 grade concrete will be suitable however it would only be £30 extra to go with C30 and £80 extra in total to go with C35...

Any other reason to blind type 1 other than to protect dpm?

Hi All I am in the middle of constructing a raft foundation for my extension. My DPM will sit on top of the slab below the insulation and screed so that I can tie it into the external leaf blockwork as my internal leaf will be timber. Probably a stupid question but is the only purpose of...

Footings: Large lintel bridging public sewers and soil pipes

I sense some sarcasm? That drawing isn't quite accurate, the sewers would remain supported by the ground underneath and a compressible material on top of some sort. I see pee shingle seems to be used a lot, or maybe fibreglass. I will ask the water board what they want me to use.

Footings: Large lintel bridging public sewers and soil pipes

Thankyou Jeds, I will do that. The current connection is not accessible without excavating and a man hole cover will be put in place next to the extension just after the soil pipe bend. Thanks for your input

Footings: Large lintel bridging public sewers and soil pipes

Hi All I am planning a rear single story extension and I have 2 public sewers which run under where I need to build. This is no issue as I have been advised by Anglian Water how they are to be protected when building over. The issue I have is my property's sewer pipe joins the main public sewer...

Wood burning stove Flue travelling along wall

Hi All I cant find any regulation info on wood burning stove flues running along walls horrizontally. I am hoping to build a lean too extension with a wood burning stove in one corner. I want to run a 150mm double skin flue out of the top of the wall, along the external wall following the 15...

Building over two sewers. The 6m rule

Hi Everyone. There are two public sewers running across my garden where I plan to build a single story extension. According to all of Anglian waters rules on their website, I cant see any reason why my application to build over the sewers may be rejected, assuming I protect the sewers with a...

    Undergroup external garden building

Hi! Thanks for your responses. I was hoping that building underground without having to excavate would allow me to build over 15m3. If no excavation is required, can I exceed this as the space already exists? If I build above ground, I am limited to 15m3 and will have to fill the space in...

    Undergroup external garden building

Hi All There is a very large ditch which runs across the end of the gardens of the houses on my road. The ditch has a very small stream within it (just boggy, no visible water running). The ditch is about 10m long x 5m wide x 8 foot deep. The houses either side of me have installed a concrete...
