Hi All I have a house that is 14yrs old and all the ceiling are Artexed - not the large stippled type its just the light artex. It looks as if the artex has never been paint so is still original and uncoated. What is the best PBW paint to use on this? also is it worth thinning the...

    Pulling Main Fuse E-Petition

There twas done live - its was difficult to stop the lines when on a run. We were trained to do it, When I was in my final year I got the training but did it many times before with my mentors watching (senior fitters).

    Pulling Main Fuse E-Petition

Same here as per my earlier post - I have seen so many fuse pulls with no PPE - Lets face it pulling the fuse in not really that dangerous. I will happily pull all plastic fuse carriers but steer clear from the cast iron ones. I pull bigger fuses in work in the industrial factory I work in...

    Pulling Main Fuse E-Petition

Why can't they develop a 100 amp MCB type device to instead of a service fuse that plugs into the current black or grey blocks. This way safe isolation will be easier. I'm sure there are negatives to this but it seem feasible.

    Pulling Main Fuse E-Petition

I have seen many a main fuse be pulled by the DNO and bar the odd one or two the majority of them never wear PPE when pulling. They just ensure there is no loads being pulled on the installation but cutting the main switch in the CU. Even when the fuse is pulled I have seen loads of them...

    Gate Valve Problem

Thanks - can the cold water tank be drained from the drain cock on the bottom of the hot water cylinder. Also the gate valve is just above the level of the hot water tank so maybe I will not have to drain the whole hot water tank just the tank in the loft??

    Gate Valve Problem

Hi All I'm fitting a kitchen so had to change taps, the old pipe work near the taps has no iso valves so I had to isolate the hot water from the tank cupboard using a 22mm gate valve that comes up from a pipe that comes out of the bottom of the immersion tank and travels directly up to the...

    Rat chewed wiring

Rodents can here the vibration of the electricity in the cable, they get very inquisitive and eat away at it. I would not like to go in the loft if there is a big problem with rats due to H&S concerns or Weils disease. Would rather miss a job like that if I can help it.

    Replacing Consumer unit advice

I think £550 is a good price to be honest. Spark 1 maybe using a £50 BG board whereas spark B may be using a £100 MK board. I would not let the customer do the bonding run as I would want to ensure that it installed correctly and a single run. Some problems do arise on a CU change when...

CU Change - with a PV install

Went to look at a simple CU change today and noticed that the customer had a PV install. Once the main supplier fuse is disconnected (by the DNO) I guess that there will be a rotary switch or something in the loft to switch off the PV install so that the CU is not receiving alternate power...

    power to new shed

Your electrician needs to get involved sooner, you have to work out design current, volt drop and a few other parameters before you can size the cable. You also have to check the environmental conditions of the area to spec up the equipment to be installed. There is the possibility that you...

    three plating diagram

I have also seen this a few times, it could be a different team of sparks doing the wiring. That circuit may have been rewired. Or access, there is more access to the upstiars light cables due to the loft. So sparks do the downstairs hiding the cables under the floor rather than having to...
