    bifold internal door hinges

We would like to fit two sets of bifold doors in between rooms. There is a wall both sides so the doors could fold flat against the wall out of the way. Doors will be 2.2m x .5m and 35mm thick each with full height safety glass. Would three parliament hinges on the outer doors be sufficient to...

    Extended mitre joint on worktop

I think I would have to join two 3m lengths, not looking at wood, looking at laminates. Can a good fitter make a straight join with minimal visual effect?

    Extended mitre joint on worktop

I think the total length + bar width is over 4.1m, more like 4.5m.

    Extended mitre joint on worktop

Yes, a 4m length would be used. When I look at the drawing, I don't see how the normal mitre can be employed with the pier in that location. So the 45deg cut would have to go further up to meet the 90deg cut that meets the corner of the pier.

2ft fence on top brick wall

Brick wall is double brick width and pretty sturdy. It's only 4ft high, so want to extend to 6ft. I bought some post brackets that have a flange on each side, they screw down onto the wall. Should I squirt some outdoor sealant in the holes first, to stop water finding it's way inside the wall...

    Extended mitre joint on worktop

Enclosing kitchen plan, which has a corner close to a pier (supporting RSJ). How to deal with the mitre joint from the corner to the pier? I've drawn in in red how I think it could be done in the simplest and most elegant way. But is that actually possible with a worktop mitre jig?

    Miter saw by DeWalt

Thanks for the advice. It seemed to happen random, but clearly there are ways to mitigate it.

Are there any tips for avoiding kickbacks?

    Miter saw by DeWalt

I did look for damage, there is a fine crack at one stress point. I did try to bend it back without much success. Replaced with new.

    Miter saw by DeWalt

Update guys. I found new both fence and plastic insert/sacrificial thing, for £34. Dunno why so cheap, have to wait for delivery....probably made out of pixie dust:D. One weird thing I have noticed, the pan head machine screws holding it down ARE NOT ROUND! Both have a cross section something...

    Miter saw by DeWalt

I will check that one out. Maybe it is two parts and I don't see the join.

    Miter saw by DeWalt

De Walt 707, discontinued. I don't see any damage to the fence and the misalignment is same both sides. That is, with a straight edge across the fence, both sides veer off to the middle.

    Miter saw by DeWalt

I've borrowed a mates DeWalt mitre saw. Halfway through making the raised flowerbed, I noticed this.... The back guide plate or whatever it's called is not straight. It deviates from the centre line on both sides (ignore the chewed up plastic thingy). So if you have to cut an inch off a piece of...

    Vented thermal store

I did a search on this forum for these things. Came across something from 2009 which gave quite a negative spin on them. Scaling up, loads of inhibitor used, not suitable for system boiler. Have things improved/changed in the last ten years? We currently have a vented HW cylinder + CW tank in...

Safe moisture reading for engineered wood floor

I did some tests with a cheapo meter today. Testing the parquet with wood setting I get 13-14%. Pulled up a few pieces to exposed the bitumen, scraped off the bitumen to expose concrete and that gives 8-9% on brick setting. I'm curious why I get quite a high reading for the wood and much lower...

Safe moisture reading for engineered wood floor

Thanks guys. We just had a quote in for stick down LVT, 55 sqm......£4200 for cheaper tile, using screed, DPM, screed. I think that is using Ardetex products. Anyone had experience with 'Tile Adhesive' from Screed Giant, seems a bit cheaper.

Safe moisture reading for engineered wood floor

I did a quick search here, but not what I wanted came up. We have 1965 house built on concrete slab. It's unknown if they installed a DPM and even they did, it could be compromised after so many years. Looking to install either engineered wood flooring or LVT (depends how far our budget goes..)...

    Three phase in the street?

Hi all leccy experts. The network guys are putting in electricity to a small development next to me. Digging up the street and laying a huge cable in the trench (maybe +50mm diameter). So my question is first, is this three phase in the big cable? I know you take separate legs to get single...
