    Bosch dishwasher heat pump fail

I suspect this is quite a common issue in hard water areas. My 3 year old Bosch tripped the RCD last week and once I had the heat pump out and dissembled, I can see that a track on the element has burnt out. It's just where there is a build up of scale on the inside of the element. I imagine...

Fitting ceiling pendant with metal rose

The pendant fitting is metal, about 100mm in diameter. Probably enough space to accommodate the WAGO connectors.

    Conservatory from hell.

Put a French drain in to intercept the water off the fields?

Fitting ceiling pendant with metal rose

Is it OK to poke the Wago's up behind the ceiling board?

Fitting ceiling pendant with metal rose

At the moment there is a regular plastic rose and cable. Would like to replace with pendant light that has a metal rose fitting. I imagine I have to replace the plastic rose and use some other way to connect up the wires. What is the product to use that replicates the connectors in the old rose...

    Ercol table project

I've been re-finishing our Ercol table. Decided to sand it to remove old lacquer, since there were surface stains and the grain looked filled with grime. Even after several hours of sanding, some of the more open grain areas still look like they have grime in the pores. Just wondering if steel...

    loosening rusty screws!

Hi and thanks, project not started yet! Lockdown Lethargy to blame..... I agree with your methodology, a couple of good whacks should release the screws.

    Leaky chimney

My house is from the 60’s when coal fires were still popular. Up in the loft the flue stack is concrete block. There is a cowl over the chimney, but I think when there is heavy rain, water comes in the flue and seeps out of the mortar lines making brown stains. I’m wondering what is the best...

    loosening rusty screws!

Thanks, I think I will try this. The screws are recessed, so the oil has nowhere to go but down the screw....

    loosening rusty screws!

I have an Ercol table that I want to refinish, top and base. It will be a lot easier to handle if I can separate the leg assembly from the top. It's screwed to the top using slotted screws but they are quite rusty. I've tried my cordless driver but I think the corrosion is holding them too...

    Through bolt questions on usage

Thank you for all your replies. I ended up with Toolstation concrete through bolts. In the end very easy to install, I already had the right size SDS bit, put in three and the post is super solid.

    Through bolt questions on usage

I did think about the resin system, but didn't want the extra expense for just a few holes. I've looked around but haven't found a Rawlbolt type that can take a stud timber between bolt head and wall. Maybe the way is to buy the regular Rawlbolts and replace the bolt with a longer one to...

    Through bolt questions on usage

I have a few M10 x 120mm through bolts and want to use them on an internal wall constructed from 3" concrete clockwork + plaster. My understanding is that the 'collar' needs to be of sufficient depth into the wall to get the best purchase. On the box it says 60mm depth. So my concern is that...

    LED strip has random flicker...

Thanks for your reply, I think it's the connector. The one he fitted was a clip-down type that made contact with the strip contacts. When I pressed it, the fluctuation disappeared. The transformer is a full LED compliant type. I am thinking more and more its the connector, not the transformer.

    LED strip has random flicker...

One thing has occurred to me. The strip is connected via a 'plug' that slides over the strip contacts and maybe in the bathroom humidity that contact is deteriorating. As a general rule, it it best to solder strips than use the connectors?

    LED strip has random flicker...

I have a LED strip in the bathroom above a mirror. It's about 1.6m long. The electrician fitted a transformer for this, before I had bought the strip. Connected it all up and immediately it started this random flicker, by flicker I mean the light would dim momentarily and only once, then back...

    System boiler pressure to high

Fortunately, we have hard flooring downstairs. Think I will open a bleed valve into a large measuring jug and remove a litre at a time to see how the pressure drops. Thanks for the reply, at least I know I'm not making the problem worse!

    System boiler pressure to high

The pressure on my boiler was very low, so I refilled it from the filling loop. But I let too much water in and now the pressure guage is reading 2+ bar when all the rads are running. Can I simply bleed a radiator and let some of the water out? Or is it more complicated than that... It's a...
