    No return valve on combi

A few years ago we had a combi boiler put in. About a year later the bloke who did it mentioned to me in passing that they hadn't put a non return valve on it and although it isn't important I might want one.. Now I've got a kid I worry about it a bit as I've heard the water can be...

    Stagger deck thoughts?

Thanks both, that answers my question. I think I do prefer the look of more random spread joins and I think I'll make the effort.

    Stagger deck thoughts?

Thanks big-all. Sorry I should have included more info. I've already used 400 centres, in my haste, without realising the impact it would have on how I cut the boards. I should be more specific. Exact measurements. 400mm oc joists 3620mm boards deck frame 6370mm long Are you...

    Stagger deck thoughts?

Just looking for opinions on deck board staggering. This is 6.3 meters long by 1.9 wide. I'm using 3.6m boards, 120mm wide. Is this staggering ok or will it look naff? I can use the offcuts .8m long elsewhere. Or should I be looking at more differing lengths of boards so the joins are...

    What treatment did I get?

I ordered online from a company who gets stock from various places. Yes I ordered specifically tanalith e. The people I bought from agree with me. Maybe they didn't specifically ask for treatment suitable for ground contact when they arranged for delivery. However, they certainly did...

    What treatment did I get?

I'm not talking about paint on treatment. What I'm concerned about is getting the right timber treatment for a ground level deck. I've always thought I'd need a treatment suitable for ground contact. Normally that is tanalith e. As I've been sent clear treated timber which is clearly not...

    What treatment did I get?

peekay53 I might be wrong but I get the impression that if you're using timber sat on the ground you need treatment which is good for ground contact. As far as I know, that is just the green or brown stuff, not clear?

    What treatment did I get?

I've been told that the clear treated timber is all this particular place stocks and so theyve basically wiped out my long weekend of diy as I won't get anyone to deliver now. As far as I can tell, clear treated timber is at best ok for grade 1 2 or 3 uses and NOT 4 (ground contact). Do I...

    What treatment did I get?

Thanks woody and r896neo. Thought so. Chasing it up today. There's a certain builders merchant who always seems to send non tanalised joists whenever you ask for a 2x6 of any kind.

    What treatment did I get?

I recently ordered 2x6 c16 tanalith treated wood for a decking frame but what i got was listed as "joists" and looks golden not the green I'm used to with tanalith e. Anyone know if it could still be ok outdoors or if it should be sent back? Nothing on the markings clearly tells me what...

    Regular treated timber for decking

Yeah it would need atleast the upper face planed. I'm even thinking along the lines of regularised treated joists. Twice as thick as your average decking and not much difference in price.

    Regular treated timber for decking

I want to use smooth decking for a new project. Is there any reason not to just buy sawn and treated 2x5 timber? Turnpike

Yorkshire clay, water and my decking?

Cheers arthur, good point. I'll look into ways to help prevent slips at the 3 doors it will be infront of.

Yorkshire clay, water and my decking?

I thought that was what the grooves were for (as well as directing run off). Is there a particular type of decking which will reduce how slippy it is?

Yorkshire clay, water and my decking?

Thanks r896neo. Should there be gravel or anything under the poured pads? Arthur2shedsjackson, it's just at the back of the house but it follows around a kitchen extension and "sun room". Are you saying that decking is dangerous in general?

Yorkshire clay, water and my decking?

I'm preparing to run decking around the edge of the back of my property, at ground level. I'm in Yorkshire and the garden is heavy clay which doesn't drain well. I had thought I'd just use paving slabs but the places where I'll have piers pools water sometimes. So I'm thinking I should pour...

Securing a face fixed sliding door?

The area it rolls over is just decking. Even if that was secure enoguh, it would only protect the bottom. The top would still just be the track and rollers. I'm rapidly thinking the whole sliding door thing is not secure unless it is fit within a frame not face fixed. Thanks.

Securing a face fixed sliding door?

Thanks again. I can't fit anything to the door face as it is sliding and would hit as it slid fully out the way of opening. I think as you say the design is useless when it comes to security, so I might revert to my original plan of putting french doors in. It's my own design :-) French...

Securing a face fixed sliding door?

Thanks for the suggestions. Sorry if I'm being daft but I'm trying to stop a face fixed sliding door (with no frame at all around it) from being pulled outwards. I think this patio lock would just stop movement left and right?
