Securing a face fixed sliding door?

Thanks Alarm. Does that lock into the back face of the door or the side? If it's the side then (unless I'm missing something) it won't work on a front fixed sliding door.

Securing a face fixed sliding door?

Thanks again John. The door as it stands doesn't close up against anything. it slides on the face of the frame and is stopped in its closed position by the top track. Not an easy situation to secure but I'm sure it must be possible. Even just some sort of hooks from the inside face of the...

Securing a face fixed sliding door?

Thanks John, Lots of options to look at on SDS. I can't quite visualise where that claw bolt would go on a single sliding door which sits on the face of the frame though. In the jamb width ways and locking into the inside face of the door stile? Carl

Securing a face fixed sliding door?

What sort of lock (if any!) would secure a faced fixed external sliding door? I imagine it would be something fixed to the jambs like a bolt but which hooks into the door frame stiles? Thanks!

    A bit of breather membrane?

I was kind of hoping there was an alternative to breather membrane which might do the job adequately for a small area, but I realise now that I'm probably going to have to get proper stuff. Thanks. Will look around for an offcut.

    A bit of breather membrane?

Hi all, I need to clad a small area (2mx1.5m) of an otherwise fully glazed structure. I think the way to do it is cladding, breather membrane, insulation, vapour barrier (ply/plasterboard). The thing is where do I get breather membrane? Especially difficult it seems if you dont want a...

    Nearly flat roof monopitch weathersealing?

Hi leew2, It would sort of work like that but I want the fascia flush with the top of the corrugations (so you don't see the corrugations). When you turn them upside down, you'd get the corrugated "nnnnnnnn" shape all along if you see what I mean. Thanks though.

    Which glass?

Sorry God :-) I meant double glazed. Should have said. What's been suggested is 7mm double glazed toughened. So is that all I need to know? Is Pilkington just a coated inner glass to save energy?

    Which glass?

I'm rebuilding the side of an attached "sun room" and the timber windows are full length 1m wide x 2m. It won't be long before I'm looking to get the glass for these but I'm not sure what I need. Just from what I've heard I expect I'm going to be looking for toughened 7mm double but is it...

    Nearly flat roof monopitch weathersealing?

I've realised the right words for what I'm talking about. Corrugated mono ridge. Onduline don't seem to sell it. The apron I linked to above would work except the flat plastic is angle upwards for an abutment wall. I can force it down but it doesn't bend well.

    Nearly flat roof monopitch weathersealing?

I'm in the process of repairing/rebuilding an outbuilding "sun room". It's a very low mono pitch. I'm using onduline (corrugated bitumen) but I'm wondering what is the best way to finish/flash the top edge overhang and sides? So far I've thought I'll use a fascia board which is as high as...

    postcreted anchor base failure

xdave, just a quick update fwiw, I still wasn't happy with the general ground fixing of the post, regardless of what support it will have. I took it out and as you say, it was quite easy to smash the postcrete back out. Frighteningly easy in fact, half of it was still powder. I think...

    postcreted anchor base failure

Thanks. If the only option was to sink the post into concrete I wouldn't mind about getting another post, but I don't fancy digging all the postcrete out again. I used hardcore, bricks and about 4 bags.. I think I'll drill in a stainless rod as a bit of extra stability now that the bracket...

    postcreted anchor base failure

xdave, the post was going to be supported from above and to the side by beams which would be fixed to brick, but even so you're right, the stand off bracket isn't good enough. I've learnt that the hard way. It will have a couple of horizontal beams going between it and a brick wall a meter...

    postcreted anchor base failure

I set a stand-off post anchor base in postcrete yesterday and after a day came back and put a 100mm square 2m post in it. The whole thing sways. The anchor seems to be loose, with movement about 3-5mm backwards and forwards. I thought postcrete set in 10 minutes. Have I tried to use it too...

    Fixing joists into oak plate?

What sort of nails or screws can I use to fix softwood joists into an oak top plate? If it wasn't oak I'd be using good strong shear nails, but with the tannins and staining in oak I'm not sure what the best choice would be. Cheers! turnpike

cheers noseall. datarebal i would too but i'm keeping it the same as the roof continues from the attached garage where the little bit extra height makes a difference.
