    Real wood floor

Think I might have buggered it up, left the flooring in the room for 5 days before laying it, left expansion gap all round (10mm) and used a flooring strap to pull it all tight. Everything looked fine and then today when I got home the middle has lifted slightly, the room has just been painted...

    Squeaky stairs issue

The house was built in the 80’s it looks like there are just 2 nails in the steps plus what I have added. As crude as it sounds is there a possible solution by drilling a hole into the step and spraying expanding foam or would that make it worse, just thinking the foam would fill the gaps...

    Squeaky stairs issue

Hi I’m having the stair carpet replaced and want to try and cure the squeak on each tread. I’ve tried screwing down into the riser but that didn’t work - I’ve since seen comment about pilot drilling the step so the screw just bites into the riser not the step. I have no access to the u...

    Real wood floor

Foxhole that looks great, this is very similar and I presume would work just as good https://www.screwfix.com/p/acoustalay-adhesive-backed-foam-underlay-3mm-10m-10m/62317#product_additional_details_container would you glue any planks together or just rely on the foam to hold it all together...

    Real wood floor

I have a small hallway so I went for real wood floor opposed to laminate, I chose this floor and hope someone can answer a couple of questions. The flooring I got is this https://www.wickes.co.uk/Style-Garden-Light-Oak-Solid-Wood-Flooring---1-5m2-Pack/p/184314# When we removed the old floor...

    Skirting question

What’s the best way to finish this off (see photo attached) I don’t know if I should trim the existing timber which runs down the stairs back flush with the wall and then fit the skirting or fit the skirting and then cut the overhang off. Any ideas? thanks

    Struggling with tap

Sorry for the delay, I’ve finally got round to taking the tap apart, it looks like a cartridge which when I unscrewed it became separated (see photos) The bit left in the tap I presume is the base of the cartridge but I’m not 100% sure this should come out. Could anyone link me to a...

    Texecom Ricochet

Hi I removed my wireless keypad for decorating and for a while it was sat on the side, one of the kids knocked it off and the batteries came loose, put them back in but it just says no ricochet network found. I don’t have the engineer cable that came with it anymore and I’ve put a hard wired...

    Struggling with tap

Hi please see photo attached, it’s a kitchen tap which is leaking when the lever is lifted so I was going to change the cartridge inside but I can’t get the thing off. I’ve removed the Allen screw which is behind the plastic bung and I thought the top would just lift off but it’s not budging...

    Clay soil under lawn

I’m wondering how much it would cost to get a guy in as I can’t be arsed to dig it all up, then you have to consider if it’s worth it or not.... Planning on doing the garden patio at some point so maybe do the whole thing, I can’t work out how it’s compacted so much to be honest, the people...

    Clay soil under lawn

    Clay soil under lawn

Well I dug a small hole, it seems to be heavily compacted soil (couple of pics attached) I only went down 100mm as assumed that should be enough however it was pretty solid. So I bought an electric scarifyer / aerator as I previously did it manually with a rake and fork but it took a lot of...

    Clay soil under lawn

I’m not sure to be honest, this was a new build house in the 80’s so I’m wondering if it was just a thin covering and then turf but I’d need to get my spade out to check - can’t really do for a few days Thanks

    Clay soil under lawn

While I await for autumn to scarify and aerate my lawn I’ve looked into what’s underneath a bit. I had to concrete in the washing line post holder, as it was a hot day and being lazy I poured water before digging, then dug a bit and added more water, the water just sat in the hole and didn’t...

    Scarify lawn

hi I need to scarify my lawn but aware June isn’t a great time of year, is the only reason because it’s summer and it needs water after the procedure? If so as long as it’s watered I presume I could scarify in June? Thanks
