Plasterboard - Just how mad would you think I was if you saw me do this in a car park?

I need one sheet of plasterboard 2.2 m long and 65cm wide (9.5mm thick). I don't really want a join in it because of where it is (for a wall facing a door and quite close) - I would need to do a good finishing job to cover it up. Looking around to get this length I would need to buy 2.4m x...

    Treating woodworm in loft

Good luck - I hate 'playing' with insulation. even fully suited up etc. The other thing I should have said is they need a certain degree of moisture in the wood -so household condensation rising up or any leaks. The original infested wood was in an eaves cupboard next to the bathroom, 5 years...

Replacing old style downlights in bathroom

Ok so 240v not 12v.... Then as my reply to @ericmark Finally it's PVC not rubber. Original house wiring is 1960s but those lights/the circuit would have been fitted when the bathroom was 'remodelled' -based on the decor and the age of the fan -oh and the shampoo and conditioner I found...

Replacing old style downlights in bathroom

They look absolutely perfect - but I better measure up properly and I agree with being able to change bulbs. I would hate to have to try and match up fittings in a few years time ...

Replacing old style downlights in bathroom

I kind of agree - why I didn't do anything with them before (especially because I thought I had to fit a transformer to them). I was trying to keep my post simple. I do have a problem with bulbs not lasting very long in a couple of fittings outside the shower - the shower door doesn't go to the...

Replacing old style downlights in bathroom

I didn't actually paste a link! - think DIYnot or maybe firefox converted the word it into one - this should be a link to what I am looking at https://www.screwfix.com/c/electrical-lighting/downlight-bezels/cat11450001

Replacing old style downlights in bathroom

Ok - I think I was being stupid? I have seem bezels at screwfix etc but they are for specific downlights that come without bezels. Are they type of downlights I should be looking at?

Replacing old style downlights in bathroom

Ok - so I am ok to use ones above the IPX4 (eg IPX7)? Is that also true about ones above the sink - they are about a meter above it as the ceiling drops down there - kind of inset - the the ceiling slopes on one side but the rest of the lights are in the main ceiling (2.25m ish) Also do you...

    Treating woodworm in loft

Not an expert but I would reuse it. And don't panic. If you think about it if the woodworm got in after the insulation was put down the wood underneath can't be infested as beetles would have to get through the insulation to get to the wood to lay their eggs. If the wood underneath is infested...

Replacing old style downlights in bathroom

It is actually around 2.25m from the floor surface (as I said the ceiling is wood -pine cladding circa 1980 kind of like shiplap - painted now. Its not smooth and it varies between about 2.2 and 2.25m)

Replacing old style downlights in bathroom

These are not low voltage - just on a mains circuit. (FItted by previous owner who I call mr bodge-it for good reason) All in zone 1 and I am pretty sure not IP rated - so I know are dodgy. I have screw in LEDs in them but think it is about time to replace them with something safer. I thought I...

Drilled holes too big for furniture lock -what can I use to cover up?

Fantastic - from that last site you linked to I can see exactly what I want - they are called rosettes! Now I just need to decide what size I need... I'm going to have a good look around that site - it also sells 'angle striking plates'. Thanks again

Drilled holes too big for furniture lock -what can I use to cover up?

Thanks Can't take photos at the moment - I'm not where they are....will try and take some tomorrow. I was thinking of getting some of the spiked washers for the backs anyway -the locks are only cheap ones and don't come with them. (The locks are mainly for show -a mild deterrent. It is...

Drilled holes too big for furniture lock -what can I use to cover up?

Fitting cam/furniture locks in particle board (I think it is - Ikea kitchen doors was really difficult to drill, looks like compressed cardboard of something - worse than chipboard or mdf - kind of thing that blunts drill bits -or in my case hole drill bit) First couple were ok - got...

Scaffold towers - just how useful/flexible are they?

I haven't got one yet - I keep looking for second hand ones. Just as Doppleganger said seem to hold their value! Ideally I want a good make second hand one - thinking that might be better (more stable etc) than a cheap one. Although I think I might have to give up on second hand - most on...

Soldering iron location of earth connector...

I think I might email duratool ....not sure how helpful they'll be, but worth a try. I know it is cheap - but think soldering plastic won't be very good for it and this way I can keep it and potentially mend something -so keep two things out of landfill. I know I haven't lost anything else...

Soldering iron location of earth connector...

Stupid mistake alert... This is a cheap soldering iron with a ceramic core. (Actually this one https://cpc.farnell.com/duratool/zd-920c-89-9203-bs-plug/soldering-kit/dp/SD01157?st=30w%20soldering%20irons but there seem to be similar ones out there) It stopped heating and I replaced it with a...

Scaffold towers - just how useful/flexible are they?

I'm DIY - no way running a business. I just have two houses I need to look after -one I live in and one I am (very slowly) renovating to live in! The 7m thing is a bit of a red herring ...it would only be needed for one side of one house...mostly it is just 2 storey (so 5m). Just thought I...

Scaffold towers - just how useful/flexible are they?

This is the kind of thing I am thinking of https://www.laddersandscaffoldtowers.co.uk/acatalog/Premium-Plus-DIY-Scaffold-Towers.html The cheaper ones have the wide legs at the base - this one doesn't and for this one you can get height adjustable legs to use on uneven ground. Sorry - I didn't...
