    Limestone flags - dark staining

Hi tpt I have (hopefully) attached some photos. I have tried to capture the shiny parts too, the staining definately seems to be on the top as you can almost see where the sand has been brushed in I.e only certain high spots of the stone are darker giving it a mottled appearance (The...

    Chimney pot size

We have just built a new chimney on our extension with 150mm pumice flue liner running up the inside with leca insulation. My question is - does it matter what size chimney pot you put on the top? i.e. diameter? We have been given a standard roll top pot with 265mm internal diameter and...

    uvalue - blocks

We will soon be ordering our blocks for our extension. Spec says Thermalite Shield (to give overall uvalue of 0.20) and the building merchant has suggested the cheaper Plasmor Fibolite (giving overall value of 0.21) Overall the Thermalites are £250 more expensive than the Fibolites, what I’m...

We are due to build a new chimney on our new extenision in the next month. We will be buying the Isokern Pumice flue liner (not the DM system) but I am wondering what size to buy. We will be having a stove with a 150mm flue but there doesn't seem to be any guidance on the flue liner diameter...

New fireplace - wood beam, distances?

Thanks for your replies guys - are the distances you've quoted going to a fake beam (i.e. a concrete lintel with a food fascia) or an actual wooden beam acting as a lintel. We would like to the latter if possible!!

Extension - insulation very expensive!? alternatives?

That does StevieV1 thanks. I assume you mean something like this: http://www.runnymede.gov.uk/portal/site/buildingcontrol/General_guidance_notes/ http://www.sedgemoor.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=6304 Was reading it last night and it was very easy to understand. My only concern is...

Extension - insulation very expensive!? alternatives?

Hi tony1815 Just so I interpret this correctly, does that mean that say our spec says 0.19 for the roof insulation but the minimum standard is 0.22 (just for example) then when we come to do it we could actually do te minimum amount required, using whichever brand at a depth that is suitable...

Extension - insulation very expensive!? alternatives?

Steviev1 thanks for your reply - I will definately go and check them out, thanks. Can I ask - were those sizes given to you on your spec sheet from the architect or did you decide those based on the uvalues you needed? The reason I ask is that if building control pass the plans that have...
