How do I remove this lock cylinder?

Hi, I would like to replace the existing cylinder in an aluminium door with an anti-snap lock, but I cannot figure out how to remove the existing one. I have replaced a couple in the past, in uPVC doors, but could always locate the screw to release the existing cylinder. There are a couple of...

Is 7 metres too far for a 2.5mm spur?

Thanks. So I think you are saying that I could replace the isolator with something like this, and keep the single unswitched socket as it. Is that right? https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-13a-switched-fused-connection-unit-white/29377 That is another option. In fact there are a couple of sockets...

Is 7 metres too far for a 2.5mm spur?

Hi, I am in the process of creating a spur from a kitchen socket to create a socket for a dishwasher. The existing ring is 2.5mm, and while I don't know the total length of the ring, it is not substantial, serving just a medium sized kitchen and a bedroom above. I had planned to run a 2.5mm...

    Wiring up induction hob

Thank you. I haven't wired it up yet, but will be doing so tomorrow. I can see the pictures that there appears to be a bridge on the neutral but not on the live (extra pics below). I just want to make sure that I am understanding this correctly. Assuming that the hob terminals look like they...

    Wiring up induction hob

Hi, I need to wire a Neff induction hob to a standard cooker connection unit. Below is a picture of the manual and the supplied cable. Am I correct in thinking that I should 1) At the hob wire as shown in the centre (1N) diagram 2) At the connection unit, connect both live wires to the single...

Oven and hob on same radial circuit

Ah, right. The CU is actually on the other side of the wall, almost directly behind the oven, but the cable run is probably a total of another 5 or 6 metres before it will reaches the cooker switch. So 6 metres to the switch and another 6 metres from that switch to the second connection unit. So...

Oven and hob on same radial circuit

Thanks. The distance of the route from the switch to the furthest connection unit is 5.5 metres. After adding about 500mm to account for a getting through the ceiling void (joists are perpendicular to the route) I reckon 6 metres is pretty accurate.

Oven and hob on same radial circuit

Thanks. Yes, they are in different places, either side of a doorway. I did wonder whether I could get away with a single switch, with a short cable from the switch to the oven connection unit and a second longer cable (~6m) from the load side of the same switch to the hob connection unit, all...

Oven and hob on same radial circuit

Hi, I currently have an oven on a dedicated 32A radial circuit with 6mm cabling. The cable runs from the CU to a junction box, and then to the cooker switch (then 6mm onto the connection unit). The reason that there is a junction box is because somebody had previously spurred off a single...

Laying slabs. 100mm of gravel and 30mm of sharp sand

Thanks. I read sharp sand on top of gravel (or MOT Type 1) elsewhere, and had assumed that it was advised as good for drainage. I had a quick look at the link you provided, but need to sit down and look through it properly tomorrow. I need to understand the drainage aspect better, and whether it...

Laying slabs. 100mm of gravel and 30mm of sharp sand

Hi, I am going to remove two raised beds which are located in a patio area. Patio area is level and approximately 10m x 5m and has half a dozen soakaways (not sure of the exact construction under the surface). The beds are two bricks high and approximately 1.5m x 1.5m. They take up quite a bit...

Kitchen cupboards on plasterboard with a cabinet hanger rail

Hi, I am looking to install some kitchen cupboards on a wall with the following construction. - Brick - Vertical wooden battens (38mm x 63mm) laid flat at 400mm centres - Battens fixed to the wall with four screws (5 x 80mm), 10cm from bottom and top, other two screws equally spaced - 12.5mm...

Best way to stabilise this tap

Thanks to all. Madrab - I've seen the one you posted, but I'd originally thought that it wasn't the right type for the fitting I have (I thought I would need one that fitted over the main shaft). Can the one you posted be used with flexible tails? Or does that red bit come out, allowing it to...

Best way to stabilise this tap

Hi, I am in the process of installing a new sink and monobloc tap. I have put it together to check the fit and have noticed that there is quite bit of flex in the worktop when the tap is used. I understand that you can get braces to stabilise the tap, but I am just wondering which one would...

    Plasterboard and metal back boxes

Hi, What is the best depth for a metal back box when installed in a batten and plasterboard wall? Should the front of the metal box, ideally be flush with the front of the plasterboard, or slightly deeper/proud? Does the ideal depth change if the plasterboard is to be tiled? If the front of...

    Would you use props here?

Thanks. So you don't think that the gas flue box could be providing any meaningful amount of support, that would need to be compensated for?

    Would you use props here?

Hi, I am planning to remove a gas flue box and brick up the opening (single brick wall downstairs, but a chimney on first floor and in loft). I plan to remove the box and the rough filled bricks around the box. I was planning to put a prop either side with a needle at approximately where the...

On unit price, yes, but taking into account the quantity and the delivery cost, I couldn't find anything else cheaper locally.

Mortar mix for internal load bearing wall, engineering bricks

Thanks for all the gentle support :D Nobody has pointed out anything catastrophic, which is all I wanted to check. There is a concrete lintel at the top. Those bricks were just the cheapest at Wickes (56p) so, as it is an internal wall, I thought there was no point getting anything else. I'm...
