    3KW rated shower ????

That is what we were doing after getting him 6 months ago - and it was getting a bit tedious. Now we have moved house and the garage is closer I thought it would be nice to have warm water on tap (no pun intended ) I will investigate the over sink heaters further, but I came across...

    3KW rated shower ????

Thanks - that looks interesting - right price too :sneaky: Spot on :D

    3KW rated shower ????

Thanks all. The answers you have given are more or less what I expected. The water does not have to be more than reasonably tepid as long as it is not cold, and the rate does not have to be greater than you'd get from a watering can spray - so I need to test out a supply rate of 1-2ltrs/min to...

    3KW rated shower ????

We have just moved to a new build house and I need to install a suitable warm water supply in the garage. It needs to be something like a shower which has a flexible hose and it would never be on (ie draw current) for more than 5 minutes at a time over a 20 minute period maximum, and even then...

    BC and Electrical work

Thanks for that. I am having a bit of trouble finding an electrician locally who can do a safety check with the requisite certificate. How much did yours cost you, and what did they do on the inspection - do you remember?

    BC and Electrical work

Spoke to BC this morning - they confirmed that they would accept a safety certificate with no problem - problem resolved.

    BC and Electrical work

I could not get hold of anyone in my local building control, so I spoke to someone in a neighbouring council dept. He said if the work had been completed as a self-build then they would accept a qualified electrician doing an 'interim' inspection and as long the test showed the wiring to be...

    BC and Electrical work

Ok - so it looks like a call to BC then.

    BC and Electrical work

Thanks for the feedback - which raises 2 issues. 1. Why was I led to believe by the inspector (and an electrical contractor) at the time that I could arrange a certificate on completion of the electrical work - using my own electrician? Has this rule changed in the last few years??? 2. How did...

    BC and Electrical work

Back in 2008 I obtained planning and BC approval to build an extension on 'Notice'. I was doing the work myself and steadily progressed to the point where the roof was on and all the plasterboard was up having had various inspections along the way. The last time we had a visit from the...

    Which sealing tape to use

I have a roof on an outbuilding which has a polycarbonate section on it. The rest of the roof is covered with roofing felt (the shed type). I need to seal the joint between the roofing felt and the polycarbonate sheet. Can anyone tell me if they can recommend a tape that can be used which will...

    Induction Hob problem.

Thanks Bernard. It is a wire element set in a ceramic (type) round block. The controls are 'touch' controls under the glass - finger over the right spot on the glass controls the elements temp and the on/off/lock facility. So it sounds like it may be one of the components on the PCB may have...

    Induction Hob problem.

We have a Fagor Innova induction hob which has not given us any problems since new. Yesterday, however, one of the hot plates suddenly took a mind of it's own and refused to switch off. It had been used and then turned off, which was fine, but then it came back on again and would not switch off...

What has caused this melt down??

Bernard/Taylor - Thanks for your input, I am no electrician, but from my college days I did wonder about the connection being the culprit but it is nice to hear views from the experienced side. You could be right - it may have been a plumber who did the installation - it was a while back so...

What has caused this melt down??

The other day the water in one of our hot water tanks suddenly stopped heating, and on checking the immersion heater I discovered that the neutral cable on the feed had seemingly overheated to the point where it had 'broken' and the connection was no longer intact - as seen here (with the...

    Checking an immersion heater.

This morning I wrote to the company that sent out the engineers. This is what I asked I thought this was a reasonable question but I received the following reply To which I replied To which they replied Am I expecting too much in my request?? Why would an organisation be so...

    Checking an immersion heater.

The problem in my mums case is that they fitted a new stat when the element was obviously not OK (see the pic in earlier response) and in doing so have destroyed a new stat and a very expensive timer (although they will point out that I cannot prove the latter).

    Checking an immersion heater.

The one they fitted to mums immersion has one of those reset buttons. But when power was turned back on the fault on the element welded the contacts on the stat closed. I am all for safety - particularly in a block of flats for the elderly. Can you point me to a link for an external cutout...

    Checking an immersion heater.

This was exactly what I said to the company when I spoke to them. Particularly as it was obvious that the installation was at least 20 years old and the immersion had obviously never been replaced since the tank was installed. He chose to ignore my comment at the time.

    Checking an immersion heater.

Thanks for the comments again guys. Just to clarify (I overlooked mentioning it in my last post) - I made an error in my statement about just opening the bath tap to drain the tank. When I first looked at the system I could only see 2 drain cocks - one on the cold water pipe and one on the...
