How much petrol does a ride-on mower use?

5lt can is OK but have 2 on the go at least. I have 3 but I also have loads of other petrol kit that I use frequently. The other issue is that many petrol stations don't let you fill up more than 2 at once which means you have to go to 2 petrol stations or just keep them on rotation.

    Incinerator or bonfire?

I've had bonfires, incinerators and heavy duty shredders and they all have pros and cons. 1. Shredder - the only thing that's worth it here is one of the industrial shredders £2k+. Anything else is just good for the lightest of privet. After chipping shredding you're still left with a load of...

Your garden tool arsenal (for a large garden)

Just a note on that - I bought one of these Makita Shredders - - cost about £750 I think and even that was pretty crap. Couldn't handle much over 1" in diameter only the small stuff - so shredders are great if you just stick a bit of privet through but anything else you need to be thinking of...

Your garden tool arsenal (for a large garden)

Don't underestimate the quality of the tools you'll need - so don't scrimp if you can afford it because you will end up buying twice like I did! We have a large garden and I've built up my kit over the last 10 years. I started with Ryobi kit and it's OK for a little while but everything I...

    Onduline roof detailing

Ive tried calling the tech guy at onduline but I'm still waiting for a return call so I'll ask here. I want to install these panels on a 5 degree 4m x 3.6m pent roof. I'll board with 18mm OSB and cover with breathable membrane. I've seen that I need a 300mm overlap and two corrugations with 30...

Adding recessed area with access panel into brickwork

If you've not already been there, have a look over at www.avforums.com - specifically this section - https://www.avforums.com/forums/home-cinema-buying-building.246/ From what I've seen, those boys always build a frame over the chimney breast which I'd assume allows for easy access of cables...

using a lift genie or similar

I think you'd get away with just one as long as you're careful. You won't be able to move it once it's been set up properly.

    Fireplace lintel

I think the single wall catnic is the way to go - thanks.

    Fireplace lintel

Trust me - curved would go completely against the design.

    Fireplace lintel

I think stretchers rather than soldiers would be better. I did think about an arch but the design of the fireplace is quite angular so a curve wouldn't look right. The bricks will be visible afterwards.

    Fireplace lintel

What do I need for a 1200mm opening (150mm bearings) to take a solider course? Should I just use a catnic type single wall lintel or can I just use a steel L angle? If so what thickness is usual? Its taking the brickwork up the chimney breast to first floor level.

    Brick cleaning question

I've some solid bricks from an old garage that I wanted to use in another garden building. I wanted to use some of them in the floor but how should I clean them? Do I do it once they're down or do I have to do it before I lay them? The photo gives you an idea of them although the rest still...

Sloping ground options for concrete slab

I have a section of garden that runs down in one corner about 600mm over about 2000mm. I want to pave the area and then have a 100mm concrete base to build a timber shed on. The concrete base will be in the area that the garden slopes the most. What options do I have? Can I just chuck a load...

I've got plenty more to add to that list but it seems I'm already making you feel a touch inadequate. Some people do, others sit on a forum and tell others what to do......

    Architects Drawings

Tosh. A good builder can and does work from building regs drawings. The builder can then provide a performance contract with the client. You don't let the architects dictate your performance do you? No, I doubt it. In fact I very much doubt it - you can't take another perspective from folks on...
