Concrete blocks - Advice on best cutting method

No it’s the solid blocks that need cutting. None of the hollow blocks need cutting thankfully.

Concrete blocks - Advice on best cutting method

Hi everyone, I’m getting close to laying the blocks for my wall but first I need to cut some of them to size. Can someone tell what the best method is to achieve this? I’ve seen there is a disc cutter or a block splitter or a hammer and masonry chisel. I need to cut around 20 or so blocks so...

Where might I find these hollow blocks?

Haha, yes I saw those too! Would be handy if I lived anywhere near. Not having a van is a bit of a pain. I got in contact with Tarmac and they said my nearest stockist is in Watford and then all further North. Doh!

Where might I find these hollow blocks?

Yes, all the usual suspects. They all have 215mm but the 140mm seems to be very elusive.

Where might I find these hollow blocks?

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get hold of x20 140mm dense hollow concrete blocks (7N/mm²) but I'm struggling to find any in my local area. I'm on the Hampshire/Berkshire/Surrey border. There are some showing on buildingmaterials.co.uk website but when I ordered them they came back and send they...

    Volumetric Concrete....

Yes that's what I was thinking. They said that I'd have to buy a minimum of 1.5 but it still seems a little expensive. I'll have a look at the concrete network. Thanks

    Volumetric Concrete....

Hi, I'm coming to the point where I will actually need to get some concrete in. I like the idea of volumetric concrete so that I pay for what I use. I need about 1.2 cubic metres of concrete and will have to barrow it. Having phoned a few people up there seems to be a big difference in price...

    Finally getting around to it...

I'm near Fleet in Hampshire. I went with Buildbase in the end. Phoned them up and managed to get the solid blocks a lot cheaper than quoted on the website which seemed like a good deal.

Before I go and do something I shouldn't......

Can anyone tell me if they think this pipe? is something I shouldn't cut? We moved into a new build in 2019 and I'm developing the garden. Digging footings for a wall and came across this metal object which looks like it might be scaffolding or something similar. It must be long as I cannot...

    Ready mix concrete recommendations…

Hi everyone, Can anyone recommend a ready mix concrete supplier that supplies small loads (1m³) to north Hampshire? There seems to be so many suppliers and I have to phone or email them to get a quote. I thought I’d see if I can downselect from sone of your recommendations first. Thanks, Ed

Is Ready mix Concrete the way forward?

That sounds promising and I like a good workout for free. My only concern is that parts of it will go off whilst I'm still filling but I guess that's not the end of the word.

Is Ready mix Concrete the way forward?

The mix yourself idea is very attractive because of the lower cost. How much rouglhy would it be to buy readymix and barrow it?

    Drainage....can I do this?

Hi @^woody^ There is actually two separate things going on here. 1) We have a new build on clay soil and there is a very wet area at the back of the garden. Last week I dug a hole there and within 30 mins it was full of water. I’d like to get rid of that water if I can. 2) the second part is...

    Drainage....can I do this?

In terms of the design of the drain I was planning to use flexible perforated 80mm pipe to collect the water and to take it to the drain. I've found the surface water drain pipe (110mm) and am planning to insert a 'T' piece into it. Is it best to use flexible slip couplings with jubilee clips...

Hi everyone, Keen newbie here taking on a garden project. I'm building a small retaining wall and a patio. Thinking about drainage I'm going to run slotted flexible pipe by the wall and now thinking about where to put the water. There is a storm drain inspection chamber with lots of spare...
