    motorised valve

I am clearly just plain stupid and have no idea what I am doing. There's no point in providing more information than is needed to answer the question as it is only likely to confuse matters. What is in the first post contains everything needed for an answer. But given the way this thread is...

    motorised valve

Log boiler with distribution to several properties. The system uses a three port mid point valve to control flow between HW and CH. Creating a link between the control lines for HW and CH by joining them both to the brown wire will mess up the operation of this mid point valve.

    motorised valve

I only have one two port valve. Yes, the system is fully pumped. The system will work from an underground pipe heat distribution. When the CH and HW are both off I want the valve to close to stop thermal / gravity circulation in the system through the underground pipe. Yes, it closes when the...

    motorised valve

I have a Honeywell V4043H (normally closed) motorised valve in my system. I can see how to wire it into my Corgi programmer so that it will close when the heating goes of or to wire it so that it closes when the hot water goes off. However, I only want it to close when the heating and the hot...

    Heating system

OK, going back to measure now, it's more like 6m x 11m. Sorry. That's what happens when you do things off the top of your head. Yes, I have done a calc for the rads (they are replacing electric storage anyway, so it is easier to work out the require Kw. - 20Kw in total, including the DHW.

    Heating system

Hello, Planing a new small wet heating system with a mid point valve, 4 radiators and one indirect HW cylinder. All on the ground floor and within a property no bigger than 15 x 15m. I plan to have separate 22mm primary flow pipes for the CH and the DHW, but to have a shared return pipe for...

Which plastic pipe is best for central heating?

warranty is pretty much irrelevant to me - I just want fittings that won't fail in time and plastic unfortunately degrades a lot faster than brass and copper... Thanks for that about PB & PEX

Which plastic pipe is best for central heating?

92 deg C at 3 BAR, why not... But seriously, I just wondered what the difference between PB and PEX is and what anybody thinks about using brass fittings and olive for longevity...

Which plastic pipe is best for central heating?

Yes, copper is best and I would prefer to use that but I also don't want to rip up my beautiful floor and flexible plastic will push through where copper won't. I realise that I need a barrier pipe to stop air ingress, but there are a range of different types of plastic pipe available and I'm...

Faulty soil pipe air admittance valve? Need some help

AAV are notoriously unreliable. Can you hear the air coming in when a toilet is flushed? Why not just replace it and see (they're not expensive). If everything works with the AAV off then it would also work if you had an open vent on the roof. And your drains are clear from your pic.

Replacing storage heaters with wet system

Hello, I'm about to replace electric storage heaters with a wet system and need to size the radiators. Storage heater ratings are 2.55Kw, 3.4Kw and 1.5Kw. It occurred to me that rather than just replacing them with radiators having the equivalent output (which seem quite large to me) I could...

    towel radiator

I once had a stat on an immersion tank fail and the water started boiling. I was surprised to find out that stats failing is quite common and even more surprised to find out that they aren't fail safe - they don't just kill the current when they fail. However, electric only liquid filled...

    towel radiator

Have just bought a ladder type towel radiator for the bathroom. It's designed to be plumbed in to a wet system and can also take an electric element for use when the heating is off. Don't have a wet system here, so just plan to use it with the element. It just occurred to me 'though, that I...

    Central heating pump

We have a big house on 3 floors and our pump is about 14 yrs old. Still going, but is a bit noisy at times and I sometimes wonder if it is getting the water around the house as fast as it used to. What's the expected life of these pumps? Do they loose power over time? Would it be wise to...

    booster pump

My tank outlet is 1/2 inch - which is the root of the problem. I don't know if you even get a surrey flange that small and if you did the flow rate would be tiny. I have an Essex flange and it says max temp 60 deg C for rubber washers. Even if I set my thermostat at 59 deg, whos to say it is...

    booster pump

I've thought about this and worked out the answer myself - If I did that I'd end up pumping a load of hot water up the vent pipe.... So, I'll have to fit a pump to the outlet... There's one cylinder exclusively for one bathroom (with shower and sink). So to avoid putting in a flange, I...

    booster pump

I want to install a pump to boost hot water flow. Have looked at shower pumps and they seem to involve a lot a flanges, gravity loops etc.... Is there a way that I could fit a pump to the cold water feed at the bottom of my HW cylinder and thereby boost the pressure of all the hot water...

    low hot water flow

I had a hot water cylinder specially made to fit in a tight space. Annoyingly I didn't specify the size of the outlet and they put in a half inch thread. This means that I don't get a high enough flow for a descent shower. I don't want to install a pump or go to the hassle of raising the...
