Leaking Lead Water Main - Mare

Change the pipe to new pipe. Out water-board tested our water and said they'd change it for free - so why not contact them first? As the old pipe went under an extension (!) they said they'd take the pipe to the front of the house, and my issue to get it to where I wanted. Great. Anyway, a...

Boiler noise - jet fly-past or trumpet (audio attached)

Hi Vaillant turbomax 828. Ignore the rattles and fan noise - its been like that since we moved in 6+ years ago Recently changed the HW heat exchanger, and all good. Boiler working well for hot water and heating. However, it is making a strange noise which is sounding like a jet fly past, or...

    Vaillant Turbomax 828 - F24

I hate incomplete threads where you never find out what happened. Anyway, since the last post in April, the boiler has been 100% perfect - so I have stalled this. Couple of days ago I replaced the shower quadrant frame (long story!) - and had our first shower in a week (had been bathing!) and...

(All OK - so don't bother looking!) Help! Vaillaint Turbomax 828 o-ring part?!

Yep. Have a specific tub I bought for this job :) Anyway - the o'rings from Vaillant are slightly bigger than the smaller (fractions) and a bit smaller than the ones I had on the pump (branded) - so clearly that was throwing me out. The boiler has been reassembled, with grease, and wohoo! No...

(All OK - so don't bother looking!) Help! Vaillaint Turbomax 828 o-ring part?!

It looked rather deformed and old. Time for a new one Enough about the wife! (New orings collected, and seems to fit OK, not "tight" but not loose - just reassembling...)

(All OK - so don't bother looking!) Help! Vaillaint Turbomax 828 o-ring part?!

ETA: Just found https://www.heatingspares247.com/media/Aditional_Content/Boiler_Manuals/Vaillant/Vaillant%20turbo-MXP-ThermoCMPT.pdf which says the oring 981151 is packing ring 19.0 x 3.15 So maybe it will fit, and the old fat one may be this one squashed; and the pump ones may be this one...

(All OK - so don't bother looking!) Help! Vaillaint Turbomax 828 o-ring part?!

Hi (Vaillant Turbomax Plus 828E - 282/2.5 GC 47 044 09 ) Today, changed the heat exchanger and diverter valve, and that seemed to be OK. However, I must've nudged another pipe and disturbed an old oring that started to drip. Annoying it was the one behind the pump. Doh. Looking at parts...

Loft boarding, with legs, and cross battens...?

Ha :) All ordered, thanks, Yes, may be in my "to do when cooler" pile of jobs. No electric shower, biggest consumption is 500W on the PIV heater, and these cables are not being covered. Looking forward to it and seeing what hidden delights the loft holds :)

Loft boarding, with legs, and cross battens...?

Yeah, the house is pretty (very) solid and timbers all "pristine" considering. Built well in those days, even if not level :) Not sure how much slack there is in the wiring, doubt enough to bring on top of the boards if that's what you mean?. I'll only be gong over 2 rooms, one room just has a...

Loft boarding, with legs, and cross battens...?

Time to sort the loft space out. Have an area of 4.8 x 3m which I can board, leaving 1m or so around the eves for ventilation. Roof also new with breathable felt. I think I want to use loft-legs and a raised floor with extra insulation underneath, again leaving room for good airflow under the...

Loft boarding (for storage) - and insulation

So no potential issues with airflow / possible condensation by raising and boarding? (Loft has new breathable felt and I won't be going within 1m of the eves, not looking to insulate rafters etc)

Loft boarding (for storage) - and insulation

Hi Our 1930s loft is quite big and easy enough to walk around the centre bit, so its being used for storage with boxes just balanced on things and squashing the insulation. Beams are 4x2. I want to improve insulation as well, so was thinking of laying more 4x2 at 90' to the existing beams...

    Externally tiled window cills

thanks. We have double romans - and the wobbly bits wouldn't look right for us :(

    Externally tiled window cills

Hi We have a 1930s house and outside the window cills are tiled and deteriorated over the years, and painted (badly). Of course, previous owners have put in uPVC windows so would expect them to be overlapped a bit (!). They seem to be slightly shallower than the external brick face. Maybe...

Electric driveway gates with 100% manual (and automatic) Pedestrian Gate

Hi all Thought I'd post this as when I wanted to do it, I was told by many it couldn't be done. I wanted electric gates, but wanted the pedestrian gate to be openable via normal gate latch method - and not intercom or button press. *AND* be automatic openning as well. When I asked around got...

Union Joint Washers, O-Rings - best practice to fit?

Thanks - I did buy that grease as I was passing (and got my free coffee :) ), so will take it back tomorrow (and get another coffee). Appreciate the answer and me getting it wrong. Just bought...

Union Joint Washers, O-Rings - best practice to fit?

Brilliant, thanks. Looking at toolstation "plumbers grease" to lubricate? Is that the same? (Or alternative product?) https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/Consumables/Plumbers+Grease+57+grms/d20/sd2711/p34053 (I have toolstation & screwfix in 1/2 mile :) 0 Fibre install dry - great -...

Union Joint Washers, O-Rings - best practice to fit?

I hang my head in shame asking, but realised I don't know the best practice of swapping o'rings and union joint washers! I've obviously changed things before and they've been fine, so just wondering if there is a correct way? e.g. I've got to remove a vaillant diverter valve that...

    Vaillant Turbomax 828 - F24

Thanks for clarifying. Seems to be many names for each HE - so just being pedantic checking :) OK, if its the sardine tin I'll replace it - yep cost more - but once done its done. "genuine" parts seem to be £40-50 on ebay. No offence to anyone in the trade, but I've never had luck and found...
