Water still in a Drained system???

I have a gravity central heating system, need to solder a pipe fitting thats leaking. The fitting is on the pipe that leads from the bottom of the copper cylinder coil. So I locked up the ball cock for the water feed to the boiler and drained the system by undoing drain plugs on the ground floor...

Radiator Noise - Dripping / Gushing sound?

Drained entire system and refilled, its a gravity indirect coil type. All 8 radiators get nice and hot, all rads have been bled and no air. However, the 1st Rad downstairs is making an internal dripping/gush sound. Almost sounds like its empty and waters being poured in the top!!! I've left...

Replaced Copper Cylinder - Don't Taps on pipes ever work!!!!

Just don't my first replacement of a Central Heating Copper Cylinder. One thing I've learned is that all these stop cocks on pipes do NOT stop water flow 100%, they must dribble!!!! Turned off the main cold feed, but little drips still dropped in to main header tank in loft.. ending up strapping...

Copper Cylinder Not Getting Hot - Should Pipes be hot?

thanks for the help and suggestions. The feeder tank is full, but the water looks pretty still, as though its been there for ages!!!! Also, if I push the ball cock down no water comes in, maybe the value seized due to lack of use, but I'm guessing this has no bearing on the coil supply in cylinder?

Copper Cylinder Not Getting Hot - Should Pipes be hot?

Hi Here's a picture of my cylinder in airing cupboard. From previous posts you'll know I do not get any hot water, but radiators work fine. Its a Potterton system from the 70s, there are no options to turn on hot water/rads seperately, you only get hot water when the radiators are on!! The...

How to trace my copper water pipes around home?

As my previous posts, I will attempt on Monday to take out the copper cylinder in the airing cupboard. Its a 1970's Potterton boiler, gravity indirect coil type with feeder in loft. I'm going to turn off the main supply that I see is a cold pipe in the downstairs toilet, I think this kills...

I'm currently trying to draw a diagram of my water pipes (to and from rads, copper tank, feeder, etc...) so I can get my head around the layout and what connects to what? Has anyone got any tips on this, for example I have two pipes going to my Front Room Rad, and they then climb the wall and...

Thanks to you all, I'm gonna tackle the job tomorrow (monday), in answer to your questions, the top inlet to the coil does have a T piece that goes straight to the loft, so no air lock I guess!!!! Have checked the water level in the Feeder tank and there is plenty in there. So will have to...
