    Gas Underfloor heating....opinions?

Hi folks, we need to lift the whole floor and replace the radiators anyway, so it was just a thought that it might be a nicer/tidier looking option and worth doing while the floor is up. But, if it's not going to be as warm, I guess we'll stick to levelling the subfloor, putting new pipework in...

    Gas Underfloor heating....opinions?

Hi folks, You lot are probably sick of me by now  . Got loads and loads of ideas for our 1990 ex-housing association house that we bought recently. Anyway, we have a few connected jobs to do. We need a new Combi Boiler, the old radiators are ugly and caked in paint, the radiator...

    Overly planed door

Yeah it'll be painted, just haven't got around to it as there's soooooo much to do in here lol. Drilling some holes to key the filler into - great idea, I would have probably forgotten this and it would have fell off the first time the door was slammed shut lol! ....saves me doing...

Planning Permission / Permitted Development, a question

Thanks folks, yeah it's a 1990 build end terrace/link in it's original state (including wood framed windows and nearly clapped out boiler lol). I'll check with the relevant planning/buildings control people nearer the time, but it's nice to be pre-armed with a clue what I'm talking about lol. :D

    Overly planed door

Hi folks, quick one for you. The guy who fitted our interior doors last year has planed a bit too much from one end of a door (maybe 3-4mm deep, and 7-8 cm long), so the gap is noticeably bigger at that opint than the rest of the door. I'm pretty handy with filler (from my car repair days)...

Planning Permission / Permitted Development, a question

Hi folks, this is probably a daft question, but I'm curious so thought I'd ask anyway. If planning permission was refused for something, can you just go ahead and build something smaller as a permitted development, or does the previous planning application impact on it in any way? Just...

    Wide Conservatory and Airbricks

Hi there, sorry yeah I forgot to mention, it's a floating floor. It's a tongue and groove chipboard supported entirely on polystyrene blocks, with a DMP and concrete underneath - much like the diagram on this post, just without the heating pipes (couldn't find a better picture)...

    Wide Conservatory and Airbricks

Hi folks, Quick one for you. Amongst the pile of things we want to do, is to errect (or have errected) a conservatory. Due to the size and shape of the house this would end up (subject to planning as it's probably going to project out more than 3m) being almost as wide as the back of the...

Plastering over a horrible splat effect textured ceiling

....that's an example image - not my house lol. ....but saying that the cowboy housing association builders who put this place together have left plenty of similar looking horrors. The wonky partition wall hiding a perfectly sound partition wall underneath which was I assume put up purely...

Plastering over a horrible splat effect textured ceiling

Hmmmm, fingers crossed it's not artex then, as I'm guessing drilling holes for spotlights (regardess of whether it's plastered over) is going to cause some dust and possible issues.

Question about bedrooms when selling a dwelling

....but if you built a large "cupboard" and just so happened to put a bed in it, that would be okay for living purposes only lol? (P.S. Yes, the thought of putting the missus in her own "cupboard" is tempting lol)

Plastering over a horrible splat effect textured ceiling

Thanks for that Richard C (for the record I'm Richard B in real life lol  ). Given the house is only a 1990 build is it still likely there'll be asbestos in the stuff they've used? Our ceilings are ever so slightly (although not much) flatter than the one in the image. If there's...

    conservatory dilema

I'd be interested in finding out more about this easy-fit stuff as it's an option we're looking into. I'm sure I had a brochure on it once (kids have probably used it to make hats or something lol). Are you looking into a dwarf wall conservatory or the full length glazed type? The full...

Question about bedrooms when selling a dwelling

I've always wondered this (we're currently trying to divide our house up so the kids have their own rooms, but the layout is so poor it's going to take an age to sort out, and probably a fortune). So basically (if I get this right), if the original (old pre-building regulation revisions) layout...

Plastering over a horrible splat effect textured ceiling

Hi folks, On my massive to-do list is to rid this house of the horrible splattered texture on the ceilings (something like the image below). I have some (very lol) limited skimming experience on walls (well A wall lol), but I appreciate ceilings are a different ball game, and I'm just...

Building a conservatory on or near an inspection cover....

....will you lot please stop talking "crap" lol  Thanks for the advice folks, much appreciated. :D

Building a conservatory on or near an inspection cover....

Fair comments folks. I might be able to save a few quid by doing a lot of the digging for the foundations, and moving the pipe myself, get a builder to do the rest.

Building a conservatory on or near an inspection cover....

lol haha!!!! Noooo, "advise" on I said. I'm happy to do the digging, I'm just guessing the plumber will have more knowledge of the pipework and connections. It would be more of an advisory thing (brother in law is a plumber, and while I don't speak to him a lot, he'd probably come...

Building a conservatory on or near an inspection cover....

Very nice, looks like it'll be about the same sort of size as the one we're looking to build. ....did you say you build over the pipework/cover or relocated it? Is relocating it something your average plumber could advise on (I know a couple)?
