Plasterboard over existing walls in bathroom

Please can anyone give me a bit of advice on the following: My walls in the bathroom are not very good after removing the old tiles; is it possible to fix plasterboard directly onto them ready for the new tiles? Or do I need to attach studs? Many thanks.

Any advice for tiling bathroom and shower walls

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can give me any advice with the following: I am remodelling my bathroom; the original configuration was bathroom paint on the top half of the walls and tiling to the bottom half. I have removed the old tiles so I am now left with bare plaster on the...

New tap banging and spluttering when turned on

It is a mixer tap in the kitchen, but, the problem only occurs with the hot tap. The pipe comes from a condensing boiler through the bathroom (the taps in there are ok) and then runs to the kitchen tap. I ran it really slow for about 15mins, when I first tried it it seemed to have cured the...

New tap banging and spluttering when turned on

Unfortunately it didn't work. What I have noticed is that when it is banging / spluttering as you turn the tap it almost feels like there is a knot in the tap threads - not a very good description, but the best way I can think of describing it. I have looked for a way to get the top off the tap...

New tap banging and spluttering when turned on

I have had a new tap installed and when turning it on it judders, makes the pipes bang and splutters. I was told this was air in the system, but, I have turned the water off, opened all taps to allow any air through, turned the water back on and it still does this. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lianne

Self contained shower cubicle - how to lift into place

So I basically need a few assistants to assist with the lifting, I thought there must be some other way of doing, this as you can only lift the two corners of the quadrant once you have got it within about six inches of the wall.

Self contained shower cubicle - how to lift into place

I have a self contained shower cubicle, which is very heavy once constructed - it has to be constructed away from the wall with enough room to walk round for fixing together. My question is, does anyone have any good ideas how to manoeuvre this into position once it is built? The tray is made...

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

It was Yorkshire water who originally told me I should contact the council, they said it was the councils job to clean the drains?? It sounds like they were obviously just passing the buck, I will definitely take your advice, take photographs and really go for the jugular with Yorkshire Water.

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

The water company involved is Yorkshire Water, they say there drains are flowing correctly - the problem is by the time they come out to look at the problem it's not raining, so the drains are working fine. They have been more helpful than the council, who just ignore you!! The water company...

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

My downpipes all run into water tanks, as each time we have heavy rain (the majority of the time) the surface water drainage overflows, causing me loads of problems. So, I harvest all the rainwater for use in the garden, this saves me a messy clean-up operation after every downpour. I think it...

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

That's brilliant, thanks again, I am now armed with enough info to, hopefully, get them investigating the problem. If not I will contact environmental health. Thanks again for all your help / info. Lianne

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

Good observation on the bungalow ('') If the chamber (I am assuming this is under the man-hole cover in my garden), has water backing up what does that indicate? Sorry if that seems a really daft question, but I want to make sure I have things clear in my head - well as clear as they can...

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

There are only four houses in the area, two of which are bungalows and both bungalows have a problem with the drainage; the other bungalow was only built about ten years ago and does have a vent pipe, but, they still have a problem with their foul water drains becoming easily blocked etc. I...

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

There isn't any boxed in pipework. I live in an area that when it rains heavy none of the drainage can cope!! The surface water drains fill in a very short time and take ages to go down - I have rang the council on numerous occasions about this and they just ignore it!! Also, during heavy...

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

Hi Thanet, Yes, that is correct, there isn't a pipe anywhere that runs over the gutter. We are definitely on mains drainage. Lianne

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

When we have very heavy rain the water in the toilet starts moving up and down as if it is being sucked back and forth, eventually the toilet bowl ends up full of dirty water. We then cannot flush the toilet until the levels have gone down. I don't know if there is any type of vent on the...

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

Even though you are not a plumber it is certainly a valid solution. I am definitely not a plumber, but after employing a 'professional' at my previous home, I would rather try and do this myself - he even left a butter tub with a rag in to collect drips under the bath, this was discovered when I...

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

Hi Breezer, thanks for that, just one question where do I fit something like that? Would it be at the point where the whit soil pipe goes into the brown? Lianne

Stop foul water from coming back in ground level WC

Thanks for all your help so far, from your comments it appears it is probably a venting problem. There isn't a soil pipe on the outside of the bungalow and we are detached, so it doesn't connect to a neighbours pipe. The soil pipe comes out of the back of the toilet into a white upside down L...
