    Patchy paint

Hi Decorating our kitchen at the minute. One of the walls we are doing in a deep red. We first bought kitchen paint, even after two coats the wall was very patchy, you could even see a pencil mark on the wall where I had circled an area for filling prior to painting. I thought the paint...

    Plumbing training courses / qualifications

Has anyone used OLCI? It's a home study course, after which you gain C&G 6129 Level 2 qualification. After that you are assessed in a working environment and get NVQ level 2.

    Plumbing training courses / qualifications

Hi As from Friday 26th February I am now unemployed. The company I worked for went into administration. I now see this as an opportunity to change career and become a plumber. I have always said I was in the wrong career and should have done something with my hands - well now is my chance...

Laying laminate on the top of Lino

Is this generally an acceptable thing to do? The lino would act as an extra layer of insulation? Also, the floor of the kitchen is concrete, would the lino act as a suitable DPM or would I need to add a plastic sheet as well? Can anyone recommend any cheap laminate floor stockists as...

    Cleaning grout in kitchen

Hi Can anyone recommend a good grout cleaner please. The previous owner lived in the kitchen and smoked a pipe. The "white" grout is far from white. Along with tabacco stains there is the usual grease stains as well. We have tried oven cleaner to try and remove the grease stains but it...

    Home Cinema System

Don't buy an 'All-in-one' system. These may sound appealing having 800-1000w of power but these are very mis-leading. The sound quality of these will not be a patch on a separate system (consisting of an AV receiver and separate speaker package). Even a budget separate system will sound ALOT...

Have you tried re-booting the box? Turn power off from the plug socket, wait 10 secs then turn back on. Is there snow on the dish / lnb?

Thanks all for all the replies. Will have a look at the instructions. Still unsure whether we are keeping the induction hob or sell it. We bought it months ago, a Hotpoint ET6124X. Obviously never been used. Probably end up putting it on ebay!!!! :-) Thanks again for the advice.

Diversity: Having elec oven AND Induction hob from cooker sw

Hi I read somewhere about diversity, where someone had an induction hob and his electric oven plugged into a double socket which was fed from his cooker plate (the dedicated cooked circuit from his CU). Even though the theoretical total AMPS was way above the 30A of the circuit, because of...

Dishwashers - Any brands to avoid?

Hi We are looking for a dishwasher. Maximum we would like to spend is about £300. I know Hotpoint washing machines are absolutely crap, but what are their dishwashers like? We replaced our washing machine in the summer of last year and subscribed to "Which?" for 1 month to get some...

what do you think of fiat punto

I have a mk 2b Punto (53 plate 2004). It will probably shock everyone to hear this, but it has been very reliable in the 2½ years I have owned it (bought from auctions). Apart from routine tyres and brakes it has never let me down.
