Do I need to replace the earth wire?

Don't get ya there. Socket is earthed by means of the rings earth if that's what you mean. It's the additional 'jumper'earth between the socket and the back box I am querying.

Do I need to replace the earth wire?

Last night I replaced a couple of standard 2G white plastic sockets with metal ones. I put the ring earths into the earth connector on the socket and also added another earth (sleeved) cable between the 2nd earth terminal on the socket and the earth terminal in the back box. I have just...

    Carpet underlay

Been doing some research on underlays, yes I know it's sad but it has to be done. Cloud 9 Cirrus (9mm) or Cumulus (11mm). Some say the 11mm is too thick and can cause problems with the carpet slipping off the gripper rods. Also some have said they have had problems with the paper backing...

Paint protector spray - is there such a product?

Hi We have painted some wardrobe doors in a matt paint. We are worried about marking the doors with general finger marks / grease / water etc etc and wondered if there is a spray on matt protector which we could use. We originally painted the doors in eggshell, but didn't like the finish...

    Cavity Wall Insulation

Thanks guys, will have a look in the gas / electric meter cupboards and also in the loft. I have drilled through the house wall on two occasions, once downstairs for a coax cable and once upstairs for a cable for an outside security light. On both occasions I don't recall seeing anything...

    Cavity Wall Insulation

Hi Our house is a 2001 build (Persimmon Homes I think) property. Do ALL new houses have CWI? I read somewhere, that it's not a legal obligation to have CWI, but they must meet minimum insulation requirements. It mentioned that they sometimes use thicker thermolite blocks to help...

MDF / melamine wardrobe doors - what sort of glue?

Hi We are going to paint our fitted bedroom wardrobes, which are MDF doors with a Melamine (I think that's what it is) cover. The melamine cover is loose and needs gluing back to the door. So I removed the melamine off one of the doors, thinking I could prime the door then paint it...

    Covering repaired plaster - tips?

Hi We are in the process of decorating our bedroom. As part of the preparation I have filled all the holes and sanded down. Some of these holes are fairly big (1" diameter), such as where the nails holding the plasterboard onto to ceiling have pushed the plaster out). Some of the ceiling...

Normally have two cold water tanks in the loft. The bigger one is your cold water storage, the small one is purely for your central heating system.

Best way to test for central heating leaks

Hi I am unsure if we have a small leak in our central heating system. Basically, we had a bathroom radiator moved from one wall to the opposite wall about 5 months ago. When I am in the room directly below where the old radiator was I can hear some strange noises, also getting quite a bit...

    Adding a plug socket.

Come on, is this dangerous or not?

    Adding a plug socket.

Is it potentially dangerous? Why? Or, are you referring to possible interference? If interference, I am not bothered as I am not using the cable anyway. I will be routing a new cable down from the loft, direct into the tv (no faceplate)

    Adding a plug socket.

What's a band I / band II? Do you mean the coax and the twin and earth both going through the same hole?

    Adding a plug socket.

Used the camera and auto-focus light thingy-me-bob to help me see down the stud wall. Remember those things as a kid which had a couple of mirrors angled so you could see around corners - a 21st century version of one of those!!!!!
