Tap corrosion and 0.5V measured to house earth

Hi, I did forget to mention that the corrosion is the chrome plating lifting off. I thought about trying it with a high impedance meter just to see if there was anything going on, which is when I found the 0.5V. The house is 30 years old, with a new consumer unit a year ago. It did it before...

Tap corrosion and 0.5V measured to house earth

I did that that to begin with and got another tap from the supplier... same thing happened. The other same tap in the main bathroom has not had the same issue. Plus the voltage thing confuses me.

Tap corrosion and 0.5V measured to house earth

Hi, I've now got a second tap in the cloakroom sink that has corroded, yet another tap of the same style elsewhere in the house is okay. I've been able to measure 0.5V between the tap and the house earth (plug socket). Any ideas as to what's going on? Cheers, M

    Soil Stack Connection Problem

That's more like it Pete. So is a straight weld they way it's meant to me done? I see the current style ones all seem to have an adaptor boss first, but the ID of the boss is much bigger...

    Soil Stack Connection Problem

Hi, I'd like to pup a new connection into the soil stack, see attached photo to show the location circled in red. The diameter of that boss is ~44mm yet I want to connect a 40mm solvent pipe to it (43mm OD). I've been looking for boss adaptors, but these would all be the wrong sizes, can I...

I will post a shot tomorrow morning... Virgin Media is down for the whole area at the moment (Portsmouth) so I'll have to do it at work.

    Garage power has no earth...

Hi, OP here, to be clear, the electrician could not get into the garage to check the incomming cable. I've taken another look and it looks like the cable that comes in does not have any armour either. The fuse box sits about 2.5 foot above the ground and I can flex it slightly. Maybe there...

    Garage power has no earth...

He didn't take a look out there... It was full of cr4p at the time. To be honest I'm curious, he's coming back out this week. Is it worth getting the fuse box out there updated? I use the garage as a workshop.

    Garage power has no earth...

See original post, there's not an earth coming out of it. The fuse box in the garage is metal and the cable gland looks like this 0- http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Images/Products/size_3/TLC20.JPG To note, the house was built in the 80's, so it should be all that bad should it? M

    Garage power has no earth...

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply. I'm unsure if there is an earth stake nearby. There's a shed right behind the garage so moving that would be a pain. Is there a test I could do to see if there is an earth? M

    Garage power has no earth...

Hi, I'm just going to get the consumer unit updated as it's the wire wound type. When one of the electricians came round he took the cover off and checked a few things. One thing that was noticed was the red/black with a thick insulation didn't have an earth. After checking it seems that this...

Adding a doorway in single brick garage wall

Hi, Doorway has now been cut and the old double glazed front door has been put in. Apart from a dead hammer drill it all went really well. Although loading up containers with too many bricks that were removed didn't go down too well with my back... Cheers, M

Adding a doorway in single brick garage wall

Hi, I'm planning on cutting a doorway to the side wall of my garage. I've got a uPVC door ready... I just need to make a hole! Assumptions: Add a lintel. (doorway width + 2x 150mm) Cut door way. (door + 10mm width/height) Use a petrol disc cutter. Questions: Do I need to use...

Sagging lounge floor, wall above seems to be the issue...

So would getting in a building inspector/surveyor be a better bet. Pay for proper advice then get a builder to do the work suggested? M

Sagging lounge floor, wall above seems to be the issue...

I'll get in a builder. I think in the mean time I'll make a few holes in the ceiling so I can poke a usb snake camera I borrowed into the void and take a look. Thank you for the advice. I'll come back here and let you know what some builders have said.
