    Condensation on toilet cistern

I know my physics, why in a bathroom internally heated by radiators or underfloor heating with an incoming cold water temperature of say nearly freezing does the toilet cistern remain bone dry? You`re a plumber & gas person, answer me that? JohnD seems to have filled his pants & left the...

    Condensate Joys.

I woke up this morning with an invention in my brain - an automatic syphon trap for condensate pipes - like that used on a urinal cistern. A small 'mini' tank fills up to a level at which it then syphons out all in one 'flush', so that condensate then exits to the outside pipe in short bursts...

    Condensation on toilet cistern

Surely, as soon as you tell me that what you are saying is that all cisterns will eventually condensate, is that what you are saying? Go on, be a man. Still waiting to hear from JohnD. Bottled it?

Rusty cistern - Yup, another issue.

Sand. Treat. Spray foam inside. Carve out a bit to smooth off and shape up. I did that on my ceramic cistern to stop condensation forming. You could do the same to keep iron dry

Replace Existing Bath Fan with Timer fan

When fan is broken, window, cistern and external wall all run with condensation in winter. It also creates sufficient suction to prevent diffusion through the house. I am very happy with my extractor and would not be without it.

    Damp problem around toilet cistern

condensation generally drips off the bottom, and you would see it on the front of the cistern too. More likely a leak. Take some more photos, stand back a bit. Show us where the supply pipe is, and the window.

    paint or cover discoloured cisten?

I too want to paint my cistern and the downpipe so thanks for that. a colleague of mine reckons that the condensation likely to occur will result in the paint coming off. is this the case? or is gloss likely to run the course? many thanks! :D

    Condensation on Toilet Cistern

You are already doing most of which is practical. It is really the fresh very cold water filling the cistern that is the problem. Having a concealed cistern that is insulated would be one solution but that usually means a new suite. Warming the water before it enters the cistern would be another...

    Leak or condensation

I'd stake my house on your cistern overflowing during the night or early morning or just simply overflowing period. Have you checked? What happens is,particularly during winter, that the constant moving cold water coming from the mains outside going into the cistern condensates on the...

    Condensation from toilet

Thanks for all the input so far. The loo cistern is filled directly from the mains (I have no cold water tank) AND there is a leak. Within 3 hours of flushing, the cistern would fill and start leaking from the overflow. This is now fixed, the condensation is better but still a problem. The...

    Condensate Joys.

    toilet leaks when flushing

When I took my old toilet apart the heavy condensation had rusted the bolts solid which meant a hacksaw job. With the old toilet the condensation would run down and collect in the gap between cistern and pan and then run down the two bolts and drip on the floor. Once you've changed the...

    condensation on Toliet Cysten(sp?)

It is, you know. The room is full of moisture hanging about in the air that you can't see. It's just looking for somewhere to condense on. the coldest surfaces will be the window, the cold water pipes, and the cistern. So that's where you'll see it most. If it didn't go there it would...

Sweating Toilet - has anyone insulated theirs?

The british bog industry has never confronted the issue of warm moist air condensing on the cold surface of a mains-fed w.c. cistern. (I have seen cisterns in Germany that have with a thin layer of polystyrene inside.) Yoga mat and Sticks Like Sh*t (really) is as good approach as any. Go too...

    Leaking toilet

Not condensation. Dye sounds ok. What do you think of this ? I switched the water off the other day and all the water in the cistern has now gone pretty much. So i have taken the cistern off and put it on the kitchen table and supported it. It is now full again and i am waiting to...

paging all the plumber types !!!

Mine too, never given it a second thought. I don't see how increasing the ventilation will work. The air temp in the room would need to be the same temp as the water to eliminate the problem.
