Prep for Drylined walls prior to painting

Hi, Sorry - I should have provided more info. The Shower area itself will be boarded with Aquapanel and tiled. The area I'm unsure about preparation is outside of the "wet zone" and is boarded with standard tapered edge gyproc plasterboard, joint filled with easy fill. The finish for...

Loft Condensation (inside OSB board inloft void after conversion) (Ed.)

Too much vapour escaping from the house up into the loft. Either vent the loft or improve your ceiling level VCL.

    She'd insulation help

Polythene sheet to inside wall then insulation, rock wool? and then board with osb cheaper than ply. Will not be warm unless heated though. Seems a little small for spraying paint around unless you have good air extraction.

Is this mold on osb cold roof?

Sounds perfect. You could put plasterboard under the Celotex, but if it's a shed you could use more OSB, might be more suitable for its purpose. You won't get condensation on it as it won't be cold. You could also paint it.

    Cinema style ceiling?

That’s the spirit! What is so impressive about that swanky home cinema when you have a £50k budget? Do it for £500..... now that’s impressive. As for the rigid black sheet for the middle..... OSB painted with old engine oil.... will last a lifetime.

Cheapest feasible way of building a garage

If you can get any second hand corrugated iron (wriggly tin) use two layers of that with fertiliser bags between the layers to keep the rain out. Or clad it with OSB / shuttering ply then paint or render over expanding metal lath.

    Shed wall/roof/floor construction- insulation?

Bit confused over insulation- planning a new self built shed, walls will be 2x4's, pent roof with corrugated sheeting, and I'd like it all insulated including the floor. The floor will be a box section frame 2x8's, sitting on sleepers on slab pads and will have a thin (9mm)OSB underside with...

    Site hoarding

Yeah fair do's. It's probably a bit of wishful thinking. My to do list is long enough without 'paint 10 osb sheets dark blue'. Etc.

    Removing paint from osb.

Yeah, just something that’s annoying me, but pictures show improvements. Was thinking about putting a new osb cut to fit, also painting a more mild colour like white, but the belt sander did a good job, just 50% left to sand down now, with the deeper bits maybe wood filler? What do you think...

    Kitchen units in garage

Good point.. it won’t be that damp, it’s a new build so relatively well constructed. I was hoping that I’d positioned the studs in the right place to take the cupboard but I will use some osb/ply if I go with plasterboard anyway.

    Best exterior wood

Both materials will work, but their longevity will rely on regular painting to keep the water out. Marine ply is good stuff (at a price), external ply isn't what you'd imagine it to be and OSB is full of resins to keep it stable. With either product, don't let water lie on it! John :)

    Internal wood waterproofing

It is external grade OSB but the gloss paint will add another layer of protection but also act as a sealent/vapour barrier, it has been suggested that some consider this good practice when using SIPS panels I am building a kitchen and bathroom I dont want to be ripping the tiles/plasterboard of...

    Timber frame - membranes

Thanks for the reply. I do like the idea of the frame+membrane+batten+OSB, but I've already installed my foundations (and actually the outer skin of masonry to just below ground level) for a 50mm cavity - the batten would use up 25mm of it. I'm reluctant to make my frame any thinner to...

    DIY Shed

You may have a more life with external grade ply. But check the cost. If you use OSB, or ply, apply a polymer mastic (not silicone) to all board edges and joints. Better still, a thin cover strip over all joints to seal them. Design your roof with wide overhangs to keep most of the rain off...

Plywood, Osb & Plasterboard vs Home Cinema

Thanks for the reply. Indeed the whole point of the OSB/Ply was to screw directly into that. Would I need to drill pilot holes? And what size would you recommend? The depth of the plasterboard and ply is about 25/30mm (I can't remember off off the top of my head), with a gap of around 30mm to...

How best to insulate my new garage?

I get the impression that concrete is less permeable than brick, so I don't know if you need to protect mineral wool from penetrating damp. For BRICK single skin walls, you could use treated mineral wool slabs like Crown DriTherm that don't 'wick' water from the outer skin. A polythene vapour...

Is this sealed ceiling OK to build?

Hi all, I have an EPDM flat roof in my new workshop. The perimeter of the roof is sealed against the elements. EPDM is laid on 18mm OSB. Joists run the 5m length and noggins in place in between. The roof with the current joists and noggins exposed is affecting light levels. I was thinking of...

    Advice on outbuilding wall insulation

For a workshop, the OSB is perfect. It is cheap, easy to install, stronger for when you hit stuff on the walls and great for the occasional screws. I diluted the paint quite a bit to ensure I would see the wooden chips texture which I think looks great. ...Perhaps more flammable though.

Masonry joist Hangers - How to?
