Advice on renewing roof on brick outbuilding

Hi all just after a little advice. I have a small brick outhouse approx 3 x 3 meters, which has been left to rot for years by the previous occupants. The roof, door, joists, roof boards and window in the outbuilding were totally rotten so I removed them. This left me with brick walls and...

A problem with my timber framed extension! Help/Advice will be appreciated.

Thankyou for replying. There is an electrical socket on the wall directly opposite the problem. The vcl was broken here and has been since it was plastered and painted. Obviously i had no idea until i started to smell something and tracked it to that wall. Popped off the socket and vcl was...

    hall floor not level

Hi Our hall floor is not level, it currently has laminate installed which required seven layers of osb underneath in the front section of the hall, which is about 10mm lower than the rest of the hall, (we live in a bungalow which has a short ten foot hall and then a long 25 foot hall) We...

Chicken Coop - Lots of pictures

So the jobs finished now. I did the roof osb as I said above. Starting at the front and working back. Helped twist things into shape a bit. I put a few screws in to hold it in place. Then braced things up to where I thought it should be, then fully screwed the osb down. I then put the tin on. I...

    Converting part of garage

Hi I currently have a fairly large garage and am looking to make part of it slightly more comfortable as a sort of home office (basically my wife and I are teachers and need to have some quiet time for marking/planning etc and we also want to keep school work out of the house). So this...

    Breeze Blocks and Fasteners

Hi Johnny, thanks for the advice. The shed is for woodworking so I'll probably be spending a good few hours in there and six days a week. It rarely drops below 9 degrees and after about 10mins at the workbench, I'm usually warm enough that I have to remove my hoodies. That said I definitely...

can i refelt the flat flet roof? ? :sneaky: :sneaky: :sneaky:

hello all im having a terrible issue with my flat felt roof at my business premises. Long story short, I've had bits of leaks over the years and patched it with acropol paint and similar stuff. However, I'm now getting some leaks internally in the ceiling (middle of the roof), when I go...

    Hinges on thin MDF

nice one mate, really appreciate the input. I also now know OSB isn’t chipboard, I thought these things were interchangeable! I’ll just get a handsaw. I have a lot of ply to cut soon as I’m over boarding and wood flooring my living room. Being honest, I’ve got a fairly good arm for...

    Garage Restoration

Hi all, I posted previously about solving my garage drainage issue but I’ve finally come to sort the flat roof out. It’s been stripped back to joists which look to be in OK condition. Nearly finished putting OSB3 deck onto it and have sealed cut ends with bitumin paint as advised. This all...

    Removing paint from osb.

I like green too, just wanted everything to be a natural wood colour inside. Most definitely… such a pain removing it… I have just under 50% left to go, but putting it off… as it’s not clean a thing… and I like clean.

L shape office table made from OSB

Thanks for the content guys. I decided not to use any treatment options and opted to sand the OSB to get as smooth a finish as I could, especially at the edges. Yes, it's not the best quality wood but it's saved me the cost of buying a new table. I think this is me rebelling against painting...

    Timber framed.

Tudor times! Modern timber frames with the likes of 4x2 and OSB should not be confused with heftey oak post and beam frames - which may well be able to be exposed. There is also fire resistance and spread to consider from exposed timber.

Newbie Query - Fitting Tongue and Groove Floorboard

Fair point on raw shop-bought MDF, my stock is all ex pantomime floors (with a lot of paint and glaze on them)- they've already survived being mopped once a day for 8 weeks :)

    Garden Room

My fathers neighbour has a garden room. On the non seen sides, they have used OSB and painted it with what looks like grey roof sealer Something like this: https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Roofing+%26+Drainage/d250/Roof+Compound+%26+Waterseals/sd2809/Evercryl+One+Coat+Roof+Repair+1kg/p80073...

Cheapest feasible way of building a garage

So you mean make the whole thing from corrugated metal? The current roof that's on it is made from that. What do you mean by the last section? Sorry, kind of new to the building side of things. Do you mean do the corrugated idea, then cover it in external grade ply with metal mesh over it?

what "sheet" material should I make my Garden shed

In my experience, there is so much wood involved when building sheds, its just as cheap to go and buy one then but the wood and make it yourself. I personally used some 20mm x 150mm lengths of wood for the sides, and used chipboard for the floor and roof. The roof was finished with roofing...

    Squeaky flat roof

I have just had a new flat roof, with new joists, and firrings which significantly are positioned perpendicular to the joists, over which is 18mm OSB and a fibreglass roof. When temperature changes occur, in the morning and evening, the roof goes "doink!" over and over, until the temperature...

Cheapest feasible way of building a garage

No. Either corrugated, or wood. You can use holey corrugated if you use two layers with plastic in between. If you use ply or OSD you can paint it, or render over it using metal lath (or chicken wire stapled on) as a key.
