    Clay soil connection

Hi guys. Thanks for the replies. Been to Marley and McApline websites. McAlpine states their connector is suitable for 110mm I.D. Do you think it will squeeze into 100mm I.D. with plenty of lube? Just to expand on the problem. Horizontal clay pipe under timber floor has cracked at socket. We...

    Clay soil connection

Is there a connector available that will fit inside a clay soil pipe (100mm internal diameter) to which plastic soil pipe can be fitted, or is the external rubber couplings with metal bands the only option? Cheers.

    Central heating question

Thanks for the reply EliteHeat. I'll leave the darn thing alone then. To the others who chastised me....point taken, but I did apologise for the apparent tone. Well, till next time!

    Central heating question

Hang on...Am I writing in chinese or someting???? I never said that I expected the pump to run with a hot water demand. I have assumed, rightly or wrongly that while there is a demand for CENTRAL HEATING that the pump should be running all the time, to circulate the heated water and as I've read...

    Central heating question

No cylinder stat or motorised valves on the system. I hadn't considered that the boiler might be heating the hot water, but I assumed that the pump would run constantly with any demand for central heating or am I wrong?

    Central heating question

Back boiler system with pump on central heating and gravity hot water. I have discovered that the pump is switched off by the room thermostat but the boiler continues to fire for up to a minute afterwards. The boiler will continue to fire up/go out until the pump is again switched on by the room...

    Part 1 or Part 2

Thanks for all the replies. I have a leaking ball valve on a tank in the loft and called in to local merchants where I was asked whether I needed a part 1 or a part 2. I drew a diagram and got like for like ( part1), but my curiosity was aroused. It's the tank for the heating system. Judging by...

    Part 1 or Part 2

I've searched all over the net. Can anyone explain to me the difference or the situations where you would use a part 1 or 2 ball valve. Or point me in the direction of the written word. Thank you.

    Overflow problem

Just thought I'd give an update on this problem. Plumber on site today. Has advised that the cylinder is damaged and central heating water and domestic hot water are mixing. In addition there is a leaking ball valve causing the overflow. He's going to give a price for replacment. Let you know...

    Overflow problem

This elderly lady has had a guy out this morning who has recommended a whole new system. We have suggested contacting local council for a list of their accredited contractors. In the mean time I have done some further checking. Radiators are very hot. Hot water at the taps is 80 degrees...

    Overflow problem

Thanks for info. I could only see copper pipe used in system. I think she'll have to try her plumber guy again on Monday, this seems to be beyond me. Cheers.

    Overflow problem

Central heating via back boiler. Immersion heater fitted to cylinder but unable to locate a control switch for it. I may have used the term pumped inappropriately. As I stood watching the cylinder the hot water would bubble and occasionally spray out of one of the pipes into one of the sections...

    Overflow problem

My elderly neighbour asked if I could have a look to see why her overflow was running. I went into the loft and discovered a large cylinder with Gledhill written on the side. The top of the cylinder has two seperate sections each with it's own ball-c**k. These were fine. The problem was being...
