    Dropping a kerb

    Dropping a kerb

Yes, the cost is/was outrageous, esp as they wouldn't do it until we'd completed our block paving (for a neater join I guess). Didn't take them long to do it either... Nice work if you can get it :?

    Dropping a kerb

My council (Ealing) insisted that a council-approved contractor did ours, and there was only one contractor on the list ... It cost us approx £900 last year for a 3m kerb-drop . The front is no longer an eyesore and the smug feeling of having a guaranteed space outside our house more...

Help! Fluff all over clothes after washing

Have you been washing anything with chenille, perhaps? We washed a chenille jumper once and the fluff was EVERYWHERE for AGES! :(

    paint - trade or retail

Interesting thread, all! Which brand would you recommend for the humble Magnolia or similar colour? We've been through the bold colour stage, and are now entering the 'neutrals with highlights' stage. We want to do the whole of downstairs and the landing, so we'd like a paint that will last...

    Insurance for building works?

Thanks again, Salem. They can't all be bad then. I'll give mine a ring in the next couple of days. If the worst comes to the worst, then I'll just go with a different company when renewal time comes round. :D

    Insurance for building works?

Many thanks, Salem. I guess I'll have to ring them. It's just I've heard a few nightmare stories about insurance companies' attitudes towards building works. Our insurance is up for renewal just after the works are due to commence (mid Aug). Would it be acceptable to ring round for quotes...

    Insurance for building works?

Hello - hopefully a simple question! Would you recommend getting a separate stand-alone insurance policy to cover any damage done during building works (builders are already insured), or would you 'risk' possibly opening a can of worms by asking your building insurance company for...

    Foundations

Hi - What would you suggest if the foundations were being dug for an extension side wall (ie greater loading)? We have a drains chamber running across our boundary with access available from our neighbour's side. Would the solution be more or less the same, ie. digging wider trench with a...

    Carpet underlay

That's great, flooringman. Many thanks for your help! :D

    Carpet underlay

Hi - Is there really much difference between 100lb, 130lb and 150lb graded underlay? What would be best suited to a living room? Does it matter what type of carpet we lay (currently looking at 80% wool)? Thanks :)

Mira Event XS vs Mira Excel EV

Thanks again, Gasman :) Doitall, thanks for the link - those showers look lovely but my budget's already teetering over the edge as it is!

Mira Event XS vs Mira Excel EV

Thanks, Gasman We have an open vented system (HWC in bedroom with small tank, plus tank in loft). The shower will be downstairs. Does this mean that we can do without a separate pump and have the Mira Event (without having to connect to the mains)?

Mira Event XS vs Mira Excel EV

Hello all! We're looking to buy a new thermostatic shower, and have read on this forum that Mira is a good brand. Can anyone please tell me the difference between the Mira Event XS and the Mira Excel EV? They seem to be roughly the same price (on eBay, anyway), but the Event seems to be...

Which Vaillant condensing boiler do I need?

Hello again all Thanks for your great advice on my previous post. After much deliberation with OH (and unexpected PW surveyor costs), we've had to forego the Vitodens condensing boiler, and have decided to go for one of Vaillant ones :( We currently have (I think) a traditional open...

    Recommendations for condensing boilers, please

I have to say, ChrisR, that when I casually mentioned the cost of the Blue Angel boiler to hubby, he did nearly choke and said that he would be looking to pay that amount to include installation  Can anyone offer any ballpark figures here, please? I'd be interested to hear what...

    Recommendations for condensing boilers, please

Thanks for your comments, croydoncorgi. Is the weather compensation gadget the same sort of thing as being 'frost proof protected'? Also, something's just occurred to me: I've just realised that Vaillant do different types of Ecomax: eg. the 618/2E condensing system boiler and the Pro...
