    Coax plug fitting problem

The cables I am fitting connectors to are flying leads coming through a modified wall faceplate. One is for the roof aerial and the other for a backup loft aerial. Is it more usual for flying leads like these to be fitted with male or female f connectors?

    Coax plug fitting problem

Thanks for that. I have fitted one of the new plugs temporarily and all is working ok. Will be replacing with F plug and adapter or F to BL cable soon though. Thanks for the heads up re f plug quality, will choose wisely.

    Coax plug fitting problem

Would definitely melt the plastic if I tried to solder, been there before. There is so little penetration of the core into the pin. I don't like these at all. Might be a trip to screwfix for some f plugs or fit the ones I have temporarily to get the tv back up and running until I get some f...

    Coax plug fitting problem

I have just opened up a couple of iec type coax female connectors to fit them and was surprised to find no grub screw to hold the inner coax core. They were advertised as screw type so I expected a small screw like the ones in all the other connectors I have fitted (unless solder type which...

    Removing beeswax

Finally got around to this job. The table is similar to the oak furniture from the well known oak furniture outlets. Does anyone know how these are typically finished? I read somewhere that these are lacquered/varnished first and then given a coat of beeswax, although I am not sure why. Mine...

    TV signal strength

Thanks very much. Have been trying to remember the Wolfbane site. I think that will be a great help. What it suggests is that reception at my address from Winter Hill is not great. I have had a walk around the area and it appears that there are a number of aerials with masthead amps which should...

    TV signal strength

After losing three roof aerials to either the weather or seagulls, I have been using a loft aerial and booster for a number of years. I always had some reception problems with all the roof aerials and no better with the loft aerial, but at least it is safe from harm. I now want to try a roof...

    To freeze or not?

It's an new rad. Not even out of its packing. The old one has gone and the valves are shut and blanked. Got to repaint wall and skirting behind then fit new rad.

    To freeze or not?

There were some questions about this many years ago but I will ask again. I am replacing all my rads over a number of months and have avoided draining down as I have kept the old TRV's and lockshield valves fitted as isolation. However, in one Instance I need to lengthen a pipe by about 100mm...

    Karcher patio cleaner

Yes, I am looking at cheaper alternatives myself bearing in mind the amount I use it.

    Karcher patio cleaner

I am just about to replace my dead Karcher pressure washer. One of the main jobs we use it for is cleaning the drive and patio each year. We have always used just the lance on the highest pressure to do this but some of the new pressure washers I have been looking at come bundled with a patio...

    Pressure washer oil leak

Just seen a similar question on here from many years ago. The advice was to strip it down which is what I am going to do anyway. I will come back if I have any problems.

    Pressure washer oil leak

I was using my Karcher pressure washer today and noticed an oil film appearing on the wet ground beneath it. I am going to strip it down tomorrow to see where the leak might be but I just wondered if I could get an idea in advance as to whether this is likely to be fixable (a seal gone) or could...

    TRV extensions

Right, I had wondered about that. I assume they are chrome plated steel? Thanks.

    TRV extensions

Thanks for that. These are the ones I had intended to use before I saw the telescopic ones so will stick with these and cut them down with a pipe cutter. https://www.screwfix.com/p/tesla-1-2-bsp-male-taper-x-15mm-compression-rigid-trv-extension-piece-100mm/599hf

    TRV extensions

I have been looking at radiator TRV tail extensions as I am installing new radiators which are a bit shorter (metric). I was going to get the rigid type but there seem to be a lot of the telescopic type available. I would be a bit sceptical of these but the comments about them seem to be...

    What size angle grinder?

Trouble is that my local scrappie said the value of scrap is so low that its not worth the mile drive to pick them up? They said the same about a bath I took out. Still, based on what you have said about the aggro cutting them up, I might try another scrappie as I would rather not have to chop...

    What size angle grinder?

I want to cut up some old steel panel central heating radiators to help with disposal and thought this would be an ideal time to get myself an angle grinder, possibly used from ebay etc. Is this a job for a larger 9" disc machine or would a smaller one still do the job? Thanks.

    Garden tap thread.

Yes, the measurements seemed a bit odd to me. I measured the thread with digital verniers so the figures should be pretty accurate. They don't seem to tie up with any threads I can find. A think a new tap could be the way to go as it will take standard adapters which I have loads of.

    Garden tap thread.

My garden tap hose connection thread has an outside diameter of 22.9mm/0.9". What thread is this? It doesn't seem to tie up with any sizes I can find. I want to fit a hoselock adaptor but not the universal clamp on type. If I can't find an adapter then I will probably replace the tap.
