    What is this??

So I took the floor boards out above, and it’s Two lead pipes that been cut off half way across the room. So it is dead. Glad of that. So it can be ripped out! I’ll be careful of any excess crap in it before I do though

Pro Tiling job. Should I be happy?

He’s returned and done all the snags, to be fair to them they didn’t argue anything and sorted any snags I mentioned. But this was my first house job I’ve paid for in my first house. Definitely live and learn. Next job is the lounge to hack the fireplace out and get a log burner fitted. Hoping I...

    What is this??

Thankyou for the answers. It’s looking like this could be something I could possibly cut off and get out then, which is great news as I’d love to get that boxing out to make it even.

    What is this??

One side of the chimney breast in our lounge is a boxed in section. I wanted to get rid but it seems there’s a lead pipe running down it. What could this be? Any ideas is much appreciated as I won’t touch it now, but I originally wanted to knock that out thinking it was just for electrics.

Pro Tiling job. Should I be happy?

I’m just having my bathroom built from scratch by a local bathroom fitter. I’ve been charged £3,400 for the labour and materials (I’ve supplied tiles, floor, lights, bath, sink etc and it’s a 2x2m room) today he’s almost finished the grouting on the tiles (he’s just got the window left) I’m not...

Can I sand and varnish this floor?

No not a plumber at all. I moved in 2 weeks ago, first thing I did was replace the 25 year old boiler with a Worcester Bosch 8000. But when they pressure tested it the bay window rads and the bathroom rad leaked though a rust spot. They’ve tried to drop some stuff down to see if they can cover...

Can I sand and varnish this floor?

Thankyou for your replies, yes I’ll take a look into the forum to see if I can find any answers, I’ve give it a search :) Is it possible to replace maybe 6 rows? insulating wise, I’m not sure if its just cold in there as I’ve replaced the boiler and under a pressure test, it blew a tiny hole...

Can I sand and varnish this floor?

Ahh brilliant, I’ll ask the mods! Do I need to do anything underneath the boards? For insulation etc? Maybe it’ll reduce the noise too?

Can I sand and varnish this floor?

Just ripped up the carpet, can I sand down these floors and varnish them? Also as the chimney breast was here it looks as though it’ll need some new wood planks maybe? Or is this sub floor and I shouldn’t do it at all? There is quite a draft that comes up from the bay window side...

Very very new to DIY first home, big project

I do appreciate the honest replies. To be honest I’m just throwing the ideas out there. There are electrics in there... some how... I went to take a look this morning and the roof is leaking from the rain. My thoughts are, pop a flat roof on(?), insulate/damp proof it as much as I can. I don’t...

Very very new to DIY first home, big project

Hi all. I’ve (32m) just bought my first home, Finally! I’ve got a few things that need doing, which I’ll get some men in for, like the bathroom/kitchen etc. But one thing I’d love to tackle myself is the outhouse/garage/shed thing. As it is now, it’s about 6.5’ tall inside. I’d like to have it...
