    Tiles cracking!

The tiles are absolute rubbish - there were LOADS of broken ones, which wickes replaced with a weariness that suggested this particular type had caused problems in the past. There is no pattern to the cracking - they are in random places, on all walls and surfaces etc. I'll give it another...

    Tiles cracking!

2 walls are plastered, the third I have just tiled over existing tiles, which are stuck to a plasterboard wall. Tiles have cracked on all 3 walls - no pics, sorry. Walls which weren't already tiled were in reasonable condition, although tiled previously - they are plastered, I just...

Wall, and the cracks have appeared on 3 separate ones.

    Tiles cracking!

I retiled the bathroom about a week ago, and have just noticed 5 tiles have cracked. Is this normal? They were Wickes' cheapest (not chosen by me!) if that explains it. I have not grouted yet, so can replace them relatively easily, but am concerned that the rest will follow suit in due course...

    Upgrading radiators

I have a small house, with 5 single radiators and an Apollo Fanfare Si boiler, which is at least 8 years old, probably older. My question is, how easy is it to upgrade the radiators from singles to doubles? Is it just a question of taking the singles out and replacing them with doubles? Will...

    Replacing an electric shower

Thanks. In that case, the 8.5kw is going back and I'll try and source another 7.2kw.

    Replacing an electric shower

What do I have to do to convince you I'm thick? I'm sure you can instantly understand tables showing technical data of an unfamiliar nature, but alas I can not. Geddit yet?

    Replacing an electric shower

Thanks. How much will it cost for an electrician to replace the cable? I'm unemployed at present and it seems a mighty big job for such little reward.

    Alarm has packed up

There's a control box type thing in the airing cupboard, but it looks like it's wired into the mains - there's a large battery within the unit, which says "for standby use only" - do you think that might need charging/replacing? The keypad still beeps when I press any of the buttons, so I'm not...

    Replacing an electric shower

Ok, but if that's the case, why does the existing 7.2kw shower work fine on the existing 2.5mm of cable? By your reasoning that wouldn't work either? What I need to know is, what is likely to happen if I put an 8.5kw shower into the existing set up? Is it likely I'll be electrocuted? Is it...

    Replacing an electric shower

Right, I've had a look at the instructions for the new 8.5kw shower. They say "Supplementary bonding...all electrical parts...must be electrically bonded to earth using a minimum cable size of 4mm if the cable is not mechanically protected (2.5mm if mechanically protected)." In this context...

    Replacing an electric shower

You can criticise me all you like when I deserve it. Look, pal, I'm not an electrician. I've never so much as changed a fuse. That table you linked is double-dutch to me. I can spot four lots of 10mm, and the term "overall dimensions" is ambiguous at best when related to cable size. I don't...

    Replacing an electric shower

Actually, I did look at the link - just couldn't work it out, is all. Don't assume everyone on here has the same knowledge you do. What IS the FP of hanging around on these boards, sneering? Either help people with patience and good grace or FO. What's the FP of asking DIY questions on...

    Replacing an electric shower

I measured it's width with a tape measure - 10mm exactly. I guess now you're going to tell me there's more to it than that? There generally is! :(
