    Passing wires through back box

I presume that it's acceptable to pass a 2.5mm T&E through a back box? The wires will run in and out of this socket over to another socket and then back the way they came so makes sense to run through the box. Thanks

    Only one lighting circuit..

I only have one lighting circuit for my 4/5 bed house and am adding a fair few more lights to it. Is this acceptable and when should a second circuit be installed?

    Supporting pier size/construction

Hey all. I need to construct a pier to take one end of two beams which will span about 5 meters. The drawing states to create a 360 x 360 x 210 fletton brick pier. Currently where this is to be created there are two joining walls. One 250mm with 50mm cavity and one 100mm wall. I will have to...

    Hardwired smoke alarm

No problem. I will stick a hardwired system in. Looking at instructions for a couple of models, it's acceptable to wire them into the lighting circuit?

    Hardwired smoke alarm

Well this just seems silly. Happy to put a hardwired heat alarm in extension but not putting hardwired alarms in rest of house this would mean chopping a few things about etc. Especially when I already have a perfectly functioning system. What are the benifits of a hardwired system? The battery...

    Hardwired smoke alarm

Hey all, I have a kitchen extension and am planning the wiring. Is a hardwired smoke alarm required? I have wireless battery operated fireangle alarms currently which won't link with a hardwired version?

    Cooker supply

What would be my reason for an isolator... I.e if I'm going to play dumb what is my reason for asking for it etc? I didn't realise ut was lead pipe... I assumed it was steel..?

    Cooker supply

Hey, what do you mean by tails in pic one please? Do you mean the terminal block? What can I do to make better? Presumably the ring transformer needs to be in an enclosure? (installed before I moved in). Thanks

    Cooker supply

I was going to put 6mm in based on other research. I was going on this forum hoping someone might offer some advice to back it up. Davelx... you sound like you could help or point me in the direction of how I can help myself. How would an electrician work this out. I would presume that most of...

    Cooker supply

Hi all, just planning the wiring for my kitchen extension. The induction hob will be 7.2kw and will have two single 3.3kw ovens so a total of 13.8kw. I beleive anything under 15kw can be on a 6mm wire or will it need to be 10mm? The trip is also a B32. The appliances will be about 9 meters away...

    Leadwork

So presumably I could either add some more lead between the windows to lap what I already have or remove the lead between windows and add one wider but to go to the next course up? How to I dress the lead around the corners of the windows etc? Thanks

    Leadwork

Fair point. Tbh I hadn't considered going up another course. One end there is probably 20mm upstand but the other has about a 40-50mm upstand as the original house wasn't level so I made the extension level!
