    Cement mixer

I'm after a cement mixer and wanted some advice on what to look for as I'm a complete novice. The reason I want one is I have a lot of garden works which as a DIYer who has to consult the internet and YouTube, it would not be economical for me to hire one. I have 2 small walls i would like to...

    Screed not drying at all?

Screed Accelerator can mean more than one thing may reduce time before it’s hard enough to stand on, not be dry. it depends on the product and method of mixing. if a product was used that reduces drying time, the screed must be mixed with a forced action mixer or screed pump, if was mixed with...

Belle mixer with 3.5hp Brigg stratton - stops working when loaded

I have had a Petrol mixer belle 150l with 3.5hp briggs stratton used a while back for a project with no power, Then stored in the garage for few years. The other day we put it outside and tried to start with no luck. Removed carburettor, pushed some air and bang started at first pull. I then...

Hi, could anyone answer me a quick question wall foundations thanks

Done it a few times JD, and if you can tip mixer direct into trench/floor it’s easy and quick. No buckets needed, cement bags cut in half and 10 shovels of ballast which is already next to the mixer. Hose with trigger spray or big water butt next to you. Each mix is maybe 5mins or however long...

Hi, could anyone answer me a quick question wall foundations thanks

Sounds optimistic, I'm definitely DIY and I'd give myself half a day at least as you have to double handle 3 tonnes of materials so 6 tonnes, first into the mixer and second out of the mixer. A mixer is about 125l but if you do 6 ballast one cement in a 14l bucket that would be 100l, so that...

Hi, could anyone answer me a quick question wall foundations thanks

...are right next to the path / road … I don’t think I could get any closer if I tried lol Guess I just have to figure out ready mix v cement mixer… I have a cement mixer ( even though I’m A Plumber lol ) and the ballast etc would be right next to it. I Guess it’s just how long it would take...

Hi, could anyone answer me a quick question wall foundations thanks

I mixed pretty much exactly the amount predicted by mystic noseall recently and it took well under 2 hours, and I had to spread it around over steel mesh for a floor, which you won’t. As long as the bags are near the mixer just keep it going, feed it, tip it in the trench. Cut bags of cement in...

    Bubbles when precasting concrete step

1:2:3 mix (cement, sand and stone) using chippings with small stones will work. Any re-bar? Veg oil or cooking oil will work for oiling the forms. Bucket the mix in from close range - no dropping from a mixer etc. wet mix bad - have the mix just so it flows and tamp in layers with a 2 x 4...

    Patio sub base.

Whacking down type 1 mot is always going to be much cheaper and cleaner than mixing concrete for any significant area. Hiring the mixer is a bit cheaper than a whacker and the aggregate is similar cost but at 5 pounds a bag the cement is the not so hidden cost there. You can't whack down 150mm...

Is there a fix or not to worry?

Ponding is always going to be an issue unless there are decent falls as the path is trapped in on both sides. It wall always be damp down there at best. The wall being wet would ordinarily not be a problem. It looks as though the rendering breaches the DPC and travels all the way to the ground.

Is there a fix or not to worry?

Hi Builder just finished side access with concrete - using cement mixer. As you can see - lots of ponding and it’s going up the wall. He said an external floor levelling compound would do the trick. I’m a bit worried about it and would be grateful for a view.

Concrete Virgin - terminology and advice please

...to patio. at The above pic shows progress. The base is now dug out right to the patio and awaits some more MOT Type 1. Hiring a cement mixer I'm planning to slope the pad away from the house about 1% (1/8" per foot) so 1.5cm I'm planning on fixing a couple of 4x2 battens to the wall...

Cement mix with washing up liquid.

This being - presumably - a family-oriented forum, modesty prevents one from saying what additives some builders have been known to put in the cement mixer.

Piers for shed on sloping ground

Hi Curium, For the floor I would use 18mm external grade ply. However your shed will need to totally cover this eventually otherwise it will swell and deform. Unless you put a serious waterproofing treatment on it. For the floor timbers I would use 2 x 5's on 16 inch centres. Which you double...

    Shed floor.

I’ve stopped being lazy. Ordered 2 tonne of ballast and load of cement. Mixer is on hire next week, I’ll left the slabs and pour a 4inch slab, higher than floor level to stop water running in.

Piers for shed on sloping ground

Hi All, I would like to install a shed in my garden. I have quite a few bikes plus tools plus garden equipment so I'm considering a reasonably large shed of 12ft x 6ft (3.7M x 1.8M). The issue I have is that the location where I would like to place the shed is sloping away from the house...

    Shed floor.

I know it’s a bodge but might just seal it up and pour a few mm of self leveller on it them lay the 600x600 foam tiles that Halfords sell. Really can’t be bothered with having to rent a cement mixer and lifting all the slabs seams they’re solid.

Hand mix concrete instead of postcrete

Hi I'm putting in some concrete fence posts. Some of the holes remaining from removing the existing posts are quite large but unfortunately need to be reused. IMG_3029 by curium posted 22 Jun 2021 at 12:40 AM I'm not sure bags of postcrete will be adequate so I'm considering hand mixing some...
