    DIY concrete ramp advice

Hi All, The mother in law has recently purchased a mobility scooter and has asked if I could build a concrete ramp up to the level of the PVC door threshold. This is my first concreting project and just had a couple of questions (I'll be using Blue Circle High Strength Concrete as this is what...

    Decking frame query

Hi All, So boards are all laid and decking is complete. Reasonably happy with the results for a first attempt at this sort of work. It's not perfect and I'm sure a professional would have a whole list of things that are wrong with it but for now it does the job. My only concern is as we have...

    Is the lintel safe?

Thanks for the reply, I feel a little reassured. It is definitely a lintel, although it doesn't appear to be secured at all. I was just concerned because of the similar cracks in the render around all the windows on that wall and the poor condition of the brick work under the render and...

Hi all, Got some serious concerns after a discovery today. We are in the process of having some areas of rendering on the side wall of our house patched up as we were getting some damp issues and there were cracks appearing around the windows. On removing some render over a window, the...

    Small cracks in new skim

The plasterboard is diagonal. Its just 4 small strips around the inside of the frame, no joins where the cracks are. The cracks run more or less straight from one edge of the board to the other. They are only tiny hair like cracks so don't know if I am making a deal out of nothing. Hope...

    Small cracks in new skim

Hi all, Just a quick question. We have the plaster in at the moment skimming the whole house. On the first room he has done I have noticed hairline cracks around the velux. Is this normal? Could this be down to the fact the sun was shining on these bits so they have dried too quick?? If...

    Advice please?

So got the plasterer back round last night to ask a bit more. He said that the seal was something a bit like a resin that will stop anything else coming through. Does this make any more sense to anyone?

    Advice please?

Thanks for the advice! Some of the quotes were to reboard the whole room. Others said they could just skim over what is there. Think I am just going to go with the guy the plumber recommended mainly due to how good the plumber was but also his quote was the most reasonable. He said that...

Flow and return valve on rad

Hi all, Am putting a new rad in where there use to be one (the previous house owners had removed it and caped it off). Just not sure what the best way to determine which is the flow and which is the return pipe. Is it just a matter of the flow pipe will warm up quicker, or is there any...
