    I told you!

Today, outside Richmond station. Face recognition for what??? The sleepy cops in large numbers there couldn't answer this question in any understandable language. This is another step towards full control from your beloved politicians. Digital ID anyone? I told you!

    External speedo MOT

Question for @Mottie @carmanmemoranda and other knowledgeable in the field. My car's Speedo only works with the radio off. My question is: if I hardwire an external Speedo and stick it on the dash, will it be ok to leave it for MOT or would I need to remove it. Also, I'm thinking that one day...

    Caliper mounting thread repair advice

Hi everyone, I was going to change pads on my focus 2004 and when I unbolted the bottom guide pin of the caliper it felt like it was loose. Once the caliper was out of the way I tried the bolt and in fact, it just turned around endlessly. It's the actual mounting hole that's stripped, the bolt...

    Advice for neighbour's new boiler

Hi, my neighbour's boiler is on its last leg. In the process of being repaired but 2 plumbers said better be prepared for more trouble. It's a small flat, 1 bedroom, living room, micro kitchen and bathroom. Total of 4 radiators ATM (none in kitchen but one in hallway). He's running a Worcester...

    Isolate Worcester bosh boiler leaking

Hi everyone, my neighbour has a leak from his boiler and can't find a plumber to attend today. Is there any way to isolate the water to the boiler but not to the rest of the house? It's a Worcester Bosch 24i junior. Here's a video. https://photos.app.goo.gl/bNWuL2oy6sNdYxEc8

Anyone knows how to re-tap carbon fibre?

I put this in the general diy section, if it's wrong please let me know. I inherited a carbon fibre bike stem with 2 bolt fixings. One of them at one point has been overtightened and the bolt doesn't grip anymore. If it was metal I would simply re-tap one size larger, but what can it be done...

    Focus 2004 jumping

Hi everyone, my old focus 2004 has a problem that is becoming more and more frequent. Sometimes when I let the gas go and let the car slow down without breaking, the car starts jumping/coughing, but it goes all perfect again if I accelerate. Never had any problem with idle either. What is it...

Paving pointing Sika All Weather fail?

Time to repoint my patio and done it last week with Sika All Weather. Followed instructions to the letter and was impressed with ease of this product compared with hard labour of using sand and cement mix. However, after a week, i can still scrape off material with my fingernails. Is this...

    Hob connection check

Hi everyone, My neighbour got her new hob connected by currys. The hob came with a plug but there was no socket behind the hob, just a blank plate with screw connectors, the ones that come in a strip. The installer cut the plug and used Wago 221 to connect the hob and enclosed them in the back...

    More inhibitor?

Quick question: 2 year old combi boiler working perfectly. On installation inhibitor was put in the system. Last year, at first service, engineer added inhibitor. This year, same engineer said it didn't need it although he didn't test the water but he noted that boiler never needed top-up in...

    Treat rust on subframe

Recently put through mot my runaround Focus and examiner said there's some rust on subframe that I better treat before it becomes a problem. My plan is to use a wire brush to remove flaky paint/rust and then use a rust converter product. Any recommendations about a particular brand?

Spuring outdoor light off existing switch

I have an outdoor switch operating 2 lights in the alleyway. There's a live cable feeding the switch, then a cable gong to light 1 and from there another going to light 2. I want to add a third light on the opposite side of the switch. So normally I would link the last light to the new one, but...

Leak on chimney lead back gutter

Good evening roofers. First of all, hats off to you for being on roofs everyday. I was up there today for an hour and it was unpleasant: cold, windy and every passer-by has to say something to you. A few days ago it rained very hard and I spotted a wet patch exactly along the line of the chimney...

Forgot to SORN car, no insurance penalty

As per title. Apparently if you keep the car in your garage taxed, you must have insurance even if you don't use it. I didn't know this and being sent a £50 fixed penalty notice. WTF!?!? Why do I have to insure a car when it's kept in a private place??? Anyone else knew about this?
