Advice on stair rise and going please

Yes, he is due to come round next week before I start any of the work. Sounds good, thanks. Do you have any thoughts on how the height would feel? I was planning on a 250mm going (using these), so they will be slightly shallower than the 42 degrees.]

Advice on stair rise and going please

I will soon be tackling a garage conversion which includes a 630mm step down (once the insulation, chipboard and wooden floor are laid). I intend to make a small set of steps, but am unsure of whether to go for three or four. At three steps, the rise will be 210mm. Four steps will give 157mm...

    Paving circle sub-base

Yup, sorry - found it: http://www.wickes.co.uk/Granular-Sub-Base/invt/224664 OK, so for a 2.4m paving circle, with a 3:1 mix, the paving expert calculator recommends: 42 kg cement 152 kg sharp sand 228kg gravel (mot presumably) Am I right in thinking that all the Wickes 'major' bags...

    Paving circle sub-base

I am about to lay a paving circle in our garden. I have had to dig the soil around a fair bit, so it isn't compacted at the moment. My plan is to use a wacker plate on the soil and then use a 50mm 6:1 sand cement moist mix (also compacted) as a bedding layer. Does this sound OK, without...

    Building up a garden edge

At the bottom of our garden we have just cleared what was mostly a wasteland area with the intention of turfing it. However, it slopes off towards the edge... but not close enough to the edge to be useable (if that makes sense). We would like to even it out buy filling in the 'hole'. I have...

Interesting. Here is a link if anyone is interested: http://www.noisestopsystems.co.uk/products/kingspan/therma/thermafloor_tf73/index.asp It is called Thermafloor TF73 Do you know if this is more expensive than using the separate parts? I can't find a single price on the web without...

Installing a doorway into a partition wall

That's great, thank you. I hadn't considered using an existing stud.

    Which Jablite thickness?

We are going to convert our garage into a lounge and I can't work out what thickness of Jabfloor 70 we need underneath the chipboard. I planned on going for 100mm, but is this overkill? I tried looking at the P/A chart on the Jablite site, but it doesn't seem to make any sense to me. The room...

Installing a doorway into a partition wall

It's just a wooden frame, and yes, we are sure it's not structural.

Installing a doorway into a partition wall

We have a bathroom next to our bedroom, separated by a non-supporting partition wall, and we would like to put a doorway in. There are no sockets in the way and there is enough wall to put a full size doorway in. Are there any particular techniques for doing this please? Thanks.

    Seeing daylight through our roof...

So it isn't a problem as long as it isn't leaking?

    Seeing daylight through our roof...

I was up in the loft and realised that I can see daylight, which I assume it not a good sign :) The problem is that the lining behind the tiles has rotted away in areas, leaving the back of the tiles exposed, and hence some gaps which are letting a draught in. Picture here...
