I was up in the loft and realised that I can see daylight, which I assume it not a good sign :)

The problem is that the lining behind the tiles has rotted away in areas, leaving the back of the tiles exposed, and hence some gaps which are letting a draught in.

Is there an easy way to cover this, and should I be putting some insulation on the inside too?

Thanks.

your loft was fitted with only lining paper prior to batten & tile.

not uncommon - was used as a cheap alternative to torching or felt, only useless.

a drafty loft is a healthy loft. ;)

you already have insulation at ceiling level.

i would leave well alone or go the whole hog and strip the tiles, re-felt batten and tile.

Apart from extra dust..as long as its not leaking then forget it .
It is not uncommon to see some daylight glow, usually looking down the rake of the roof..

We call it `reflected light' which is basically all it is, if you're not getting water in don't worry, as has been said, you have a roof that is able to breathe quite nicely so you don't even have to worry about condensation

Agreed on the "draughty loft is a good loft" principle. I have problems with condensation in my loft, so a good brreze through would be welcome. Airbricks in to gable end is my next project...
