Extension - adding another consumer unit?

Hi, thanks again for all the input. If armoured cable is virtually same price, makes sense to use that, wherever they decide to put an rcd. Thanks all, I now have enough info to get people in and sound like I sort of know what I'm talking about. Forewarned is forearmed. Ta :)

Extension - adding another consumer unit?

Part P doesn't apply here. Not in my house anyway.

Extension - adding another consumer unit?

Hi again, many thanks for the replies, much appreciated. Looks like I am on the right track - I have also had a read of the screwfix catalogue and MK do a small 2 way consumer unit with a 63A rcd (which it says can be used as the incoming isolating switch) and a 50A mcb - something like that...

Extension - adding another consumer unit?

Hi, hoping there are some electricians here that can help. We are building an extension to the rear of our house. Existing consumer unit was replaced roughly 8 years ago, with an MK split unit, RCD for sockets and non-RCD for lights, and new thicker tails from the main fuse. It's pretty...

New lime render on a 200yr old house - suitable paint? HELP!

Very useful link that, thanks. The more I read, the more I understand, and the more I realise Dulux tech support hasn't a bloody clue, and that weathershield could be the kiss of death for the new render. St Astier looks like the only way forward.

New lime render on a 200yr old house - suitable paint? HELP!

Relatives have a 200+ year old house which was originally lime rendered. Slate DPC, thick solid walls etc. Old houses need to breathe with the weather and damp, moisture passing freely through the walls from what we've learnt. In the 70's the walls were repaired with modern materials - sand...

    LPG pipe routing

Hi, thanks for the reply. The tank will be 1.5m or 3m from a garage wall, the garage being attached to one end of the house. So pipework there will still be above ground. We can't go underground beyond that anyway - too many obstructions. Pipe has to be either surface mounted all the way...

    LPG pipe routing

A quick question for any LPG qualified engineers - proposed bulk tanks in an approved location, but LPG boiler to be sited 20 metres away in the opposite end of a house. Can the LPG supply pipe from tank to boiler be routed in the loft? Clipping it to the wall outside is going to look ugly...

    Self cleaning masonry paint recommendations

Hi, we have some new render (sand/cement/bit of lime rubbed up smooth with a float and sponge) to paint - has anyone used Johnstones Stormshield self cleaning masonry paint. It's got nanotechnology in it so dirt finds it harder to stick to the surface, then when it rains most of the dirt is...

Annual heat loss kw vs. likely running costs - oil or gas?

Sounds about right. So, 83kw would be around 83000 kwh. Ouch. Gas at 3p would be £2500. Oil, at 65p + vat per litre each litre giving 11 kwh according to the internet would be just over £5000. Ouch again. Gas supply quote so far is just over £20k, so we need to do some sums. Many thanks...

Annual heat loss kw vs. likely running costs - oil or gas?

Hi, have had a go at the whole house boiler calc using approx size and it gives a touch over 100kw. But, how many kwh will the house consume in 12 months - is there any way to work that out?

Annual heat loss kw vs. likely running costs - oil or gas?

Sorry, my mistake, this isn't annual loss, it's the figure you need to use to heat the house - ie rad sizing. Big house - 3m ceilings, sash windows, one room alone is 17000 btu - one K2 rad in there might not do the job :D But how do we get to an estimate of annual usage? House has been...

Annual heat loss kw vs. likely running costs - oil or gas?

So if our heat loss calc for radiator and boiler sizing is 83kw - house is old and big - how much will we spend per year heating it? Is it as simple as 83000 x 3 pence?

Annual heat loss kw vs. likely running costs - oil or gas?

We have an annual heatloss figure performed by our plumber, on a house with no mains gas - it has previously been heated by oil. With our annual heat loss btu or kw figure, how easy is it to convert that to an annual kw per hour figure, so we can compare likely gas costs with likely oil costs...

Hepworth / Giacomini underfloor htg actuator compatability?

Hi, I'm in the process of fitting wet underfloor heating, using a Hepworth / Giacomini 12 port manifold. I need 8 extra actuators and don't want to spend close to £20 each on the Giacomini ones - does anyone know if ALL underfloor 240v Normally Closed actuators are the same, mounting-wise...

    Thermal Store Advice

I've got an advance store, 2008 vintage, hence me typing this. Similar to the one you've linked to - and I'm very happy with it but haven't used it properly yet. Specced for a solar panel and a stove. 3 years on, no stove yet and my secondhand £70 solar flat panel was finally plumbed in on...

    Shower trap

If you do buy a 90mm waste, try and get a decent brand - some of the plastic chrome covers can break the feet off very easily. I've used Geberit (plastic) and it's very good, three screws to clamp a superb seal dead tight around the tray. Matki (admittedly a proper metal cap) had rubbish...

    Tray not level

Before going any further I'd be hooking the waste up and playing with buckets of water, just to see what happens. Some of the low profile trays have a very shallow fall on them - being a few mm out of plumb could make all the difference.

Honeywell Vc 4613 two way valve.

:D Shows how much I know. So how does it signal the boiler to fire... or doesn't it?
