Oil boiler cutoff valve leak, fuel has got into chamber insulation lagging

Inside the boiler itself, such as on top of the burner box? And around the base of the tank and chamber? At the moment I've got a steel pot of white vinegar sat on top of the burner box hoping to permeate the lagging as it evaporates off in the heat, so the kitchen now smells more like a chip...

Oil boiler cutoff valve leak, fuel has got into chamber insulation lagging

Worcester Danesmoor 20/25, about 18 years old. B11 burner. We came home a few days ago to find our boiler in lockout, and not wanting to restart, instead simply doing a pitiful whine. We called an engineer out yesterday who, after a quick diagnosis, worked out that the capacitor had gone. We...

Central Heating controls question: Boiler not responding

I don't think the valve is even trying to open, I certainly can't hear it, whereas the HW valve is noisy enough to hear if you listen closely. Is the microswitch inside the valve, and does it need to make to allow the programmer to fire the boiler? That would certainly explain the lack of...

Central Heating controls question: Boiler not responding

Our heating system has stopped responding to calls for heat from the thermostat. Thermostat is a Siemens wireless, relay opening and closing due to demands from the thermostat checked with meter and appears to be working correctly. Programmer is a Honeywell ST9400C, wiring is standard Honeywell...

Duravit Toilet - 82mm spigot to 110mm soil pan connector?

It is of course my only wish to amuse. :)

Duravit Toilet - 82mm spigot to 110mm soil pan connector?

I now reckon that I am offically retarded... The rubber gaitor end does of course NOT go into the pan but into the end of the soil pipe bend, and the straight end goes over the spigot... Duh...

Duravit Toilet - 82mm spigot to 110mm soil pan connector?

I bought this type today from Wickes: http://www.wickes.co.uk/Soil-Pan-Straight-Connector/invt/431975 and the hole is too small to accept the connector. The plastic pipe inside the rubber gaiter is the same internal diameter as the spigot on the pan.

Duravit Toilet - 82mm spigot to 110mm soil pan connector?

So the wife has decided that Duravit toilets look nice, and she has a point, but now that I'm planning to fit them I'm running into the issue that the spigot on the pan appears to be 82mm inside diameter, 106mm outside and a standard uk pan connector doesn't fit... isn't this the sort of thing...

Reducing water flow speed on cross-gabled roof

We're having an issue that when it rains heavily the flow in the valley between the two roof sections is fast enough that it overshoots the gutter and splashes onto the patio below. This is splashing onto patio doors and causing a problem with water ingress. Roofing and guttering is not my...

    Installing a fixed shower head

I'm looking for some info on installing a Crosswater fixed shower head. It's the kind that has a BSP thread to connect a flexible tap connector on the gooseneck. Nothing that looks to me to be any method of mounting it. Not enough thread to use two nuts to fasten to a plate. Is it as simple...

Undertile heating in a shower room - wiring regs

The rooms are small so the draw will be very low for UFH - 400w in one room and 700w in the other. It's supplementry heat to take the chill off the tiles.

Undertile heating in a shower room - wiring regs

Just seeking some clarification on the wiring regs regarding electric undertile heating in an ensuite shower room. The heating cable will be laid in zone 2, will be on an RCD protected circuit and with the thermostat and fcu located outside the room. The cable will be of the appropriate IP...

Alternative to Junction Box when inaccessable

Ah, missed that when I was skimming the ongoing debate... In this context, what's considered an "appropriate" compression tool?

Alternative to Junction Box when inaccessable

So what's the answer then gentlemen? Sometimes you just have to split a circuit somewhere you're never going to see it again, and we used to use junction boxes all the time. Of course ideally the circuit would be designed in such a way that all joins are always accessible, but that's easier...

Alternative to Junction Box when inaccessable

Gentlemen, thank you most kind. I am a bit curious about what makes that acceptable and a "normal" junction box unacceptable tho..?

Alternative to Junction Box when inaccessable

What's considered a suitable alternative method for splitting a spur when the join will be inaccessable, as a junction box wouldn't be considered acceptable?

Rotating laser for foundation layout - how does it work?

So it's the receiver and height rod that does the hard work, giving you how much off you are from the set datum. Last question, how do you ensure repeatability from day to day if the laser isn't left in situ? I get that the tripod gives you the height adjustment, is it just a case of ensuring...
