Cost of a cavity block wall - crazy price?

I've done a few searches and can't find a recent answer. To demolish and remove an existing 7.5m by 2.5m cavity wall down to DPC and then rebuild it with 50mm insulation I've been quoted over £5500 plus VAT. Even with the cost of wall ties, new DPC and also having to tie it into the...

    Two layers of laminate underlay

I want to raise the floor of my kitchen by 20mm and to cover it with a laminate. By chance two layers of underlay and one layer of laminate is exactly 20mm. Do you think it would be OK two put one layer of underlay on top of another? Thanks in advance, Steve

    Plastering a garage wall.

Thanks to both of you for your feedback. Skinters, the external walls are bare house brick. Would rendering the inside without having the outside rendered be a problem?

Where is the 90v coming from?

Thanks for your answers guys. I originally only measured the voltage using an electronic multimeter. I've not measured the current and it could well be that the voltage collapses as soon as anything is put across it. I need to find out where the yellow cable disappears to at the other end.

Where is the 90v coming from?

Whilst swapping out a security light for another one I noticed that the voltage across the live and neutral was over 300 volts so I started to investigate the 6way junction box feeding it. The junction box feeds three security lights. The cable to one of those lights has four cores. When the...

Top of decking will be above the DPC. Is this OK?

I'm just about starting to build a deck and I'm concerned about the height with respect to the house's DPC. I've read plenty of posts in the forum regarding the height of the ledger but none concerning the height of the decking boards. I want the decking height to match the height of my...

Fitting folding doors to a cavity wall.

Next weekend I'm fitting some folding doors to an external cavity wall in place of an existing window. The fitting instructions say "A cavity fixed jamb must be firmly strapped to ensure no side to side or rocking movement." Does this mean that I'll need to strap it with something? Will...
