Is...

Once it is renovated and ready for...

Damp proof and solid stone walls

Hi all I have recently bought a 1850's end terrace house which is built out of sandstone, the outer walls are 600mm - 700mm thick with no cavities. There are no signs of damp in the house but when I come to get a mortgage on the place will a survey insist there must be a DP on the property and...

    Smoke alarm positions

OK, thanks for that, I dont have issues with ceilings at different levels and I know that they need to be connected together with 3 core and earth to allow them to go off together. Thanks.

    Smoke alarm positions

Hi all, is it true to say that smoke alarms need to be no more than 7.5m from each room, not above heaters and 300mm from light fittings and walls and one on each floor. Also they should be wired to the mains with battery back up. Thanks Taff

    Cables through joists

Hi all, I have been rewiring an old house and run all the cables from the dist board neatly and branched them off where required, I have drill 25mm holes through joists centrally and the whole job looks rather tidy if I may say so, what I was wondering though was how many cables is it...

    Wiring spur for combi boiler

Is it OK to wire a combi boiler (which I haven't bought yet) into a fused spur which is in the upstairs socket ringmain. I have heard different stories about how it should be wired, for instance that it should have its own cable direct from the dist board, and even that it should be run from...
