Had this very situation, the flue bend off the top of the boiler ending up being holed by corrosion but on the hidden top side so water down it via condense etc was okay but the steam when it was running killed the fans eventually...... new flue bend and seal at the boiler side cured it

Looking at it the boiler terminal strip is only asking for the CH and DHW inputs so I would wire it as you have suggested, the changeover is looked after by boiler thermostats so all its asking for is timed inputs. I have linked these out before as a temporary fix to get folk back in business...

Yep have come across a couple recently with the choked plate heat exchanger and the test DP describes is spot on, even us Scots with our top quality water get crap through the heating side of the plate.

Check for plate heat exchanger O ring leaks which is yet another old fave fault, the amount of built in Isars in nearly new houses we go to where the leak goes down the back of units or behind trim out of sight after falling off the bottom cover plate is unbelievable. It simulates the dripping...

New O ring required, fits in groove inside the heat exchanger side, orange if I remember rightly....... It can be obtained as part of a kit for all O rings for the boiler because when you start flexing or undoing pipework it becomes a nightmare for leaks. Use silicone grease when fitting them ...

And ensure the burner gaskets are replaced , they crumble if they are the old style and do not seal up again without the new style gasket. They make loads of humming........ pumps, fan, gas valve, boards now and again even loose bits of casing. :?

Had this last week on a 35cdi , PCB appeared to lose flame signal after a random time but worked ok whenever we appeared. Changed PCB after 3rd visit and we havent heard from him since. Its a thought.

Sounds like an air supply issue , air switch drops out on high flame if not enough air getting through flue, check flue, venturis and airswitch. It will light up then be starved of oxygen on high flame for hot water but it runs on lower flame for heating so heating gets there ok. Check...
