    Render Sand

Thanks for replying bathjobby. Between posting this yesterday & now I found this: http://www.goldtrowel.org/rendering.asp This is renderer training facility. Check out the mix. What do you think of this? Is it any wonder I'm getting confused. I just dont want it all falling off in a year or so.

    Render Sand

What is the choice of sand for rendering house external walls finishing with a dry dash? Sharp or Builders Washed sand. Looking through past posts it is unclear. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The reason I asked this is I was advised to get Plasterers sand from the merchant but he changed...

    Dyson DC04

Has anyone successfully managed to remove a Dyson DC04 power lead cover? I have a new lead to put on but there is no screws visible. I dont want to pay Dyson service £50.00 to do this. Surely someone must know the method of removal. I just dont want to go in damaging the case if an easy solution...

    Convector radiator

Anyone know any U.K. websites/ suppliers that sell low height, high output convectors for central heating. It is to fit to the floor next to a wall that is just one big window. There is no wall to attach to therefore it must be low. Length does not matter.

They call it roughcast render here (or harling). Correct legs-akimbo. Thanks for your replies guys.

    Price

Anybody provide me with a basic rough price guide to having my extension concrete block walls rendered. I live in central Scotland. The present finish is white small stones embedded into the finish. It is a bungalow. I was going to give it a go but would rather have a professional do it. I...

    Lath wire help required.

Could someone tel me if this product is suitable for exterior lathing of an external panel above my window. The panel is already made up with 18mm exterior plywood covered in roofers felt. I'm not sure of the lath wire type to use upon this prior to rendering. Expamet Galvanised metal lath...

Sorry, but that last comment had me in stitches. Nearly fell off my chair reading it.

    Pipe route

Thanks for the reply TexMex. Do you think it would be advisable to fit a second cold water storage tank in the new loft space? Supply this with cold water from the main & distribute to the shower etc. As for the hot water the kitchen sink supply is closer to the en-suite than the boiler. Would...

    Pipe route

Is this such a difficult query for a plumber? I take it the answer is very obvious & does not merit a reply or just nobody knows. I would guess that a pressurised system (Combi) would allow overhead attic pipe connection but my vented system would fill with pipes with air & thus must be piped...

My boiler is a Potterton pumped heating system (not combi). The hot water is stored in a traditional copper boiler tank.

    Pipe route

I have to take hot & cold supplies to an en-suite in an extension. The kitchen is the closest point to intercept supplies (also rising main supply if req.). I need to know if the supply's must come in under the floor or is it possible to route pipe's from the loft space in the original build...

Insulating the Floor of a Timber Framed House

Quote[So allowing some airflow] As the man say's in his post. Netlon costs buttons & having the insulation directly below the floorboards allows the air to flow below this. If laid on the top side of the ceiling the airflow would be coming through the spaces in the boards. The cavity would be...

Insulating the Floor of a Timber Framed House

You could use Netlon to suspend rockwool in the cavity. Lift the floor, staple the Netlon across the joists leaving enough slack to suspend the rockwool between the joists then close the floor.

    Timber frames houses

Your vapour barrier is directly attached to the outside face of your kit ie. stapled to your OSB or Ply. The brickies then nail wall ties to this when laying the outer skin. So the layers are from the inside out: Gyproc, 4x2 frame covered with OSB or Ply & filled with rockwool or similar...

    Render panel.

I'm almost finished my new extension but need some advice on one area. A triangular area above a large window (3.6m x 2m) has to be rendered. I intend to attach 18mm exterior ply to the 2x2 kit batons @ 600mm centres then I was told to cover this with tilers felt before attaching rib lath sheet...
