    Painting over acrylic primer

Thanks for this. I have a spray can of stain sealer - would that also do the trick?

    Painting over acrylic primer

I primed my bathroom walls with acrylic tile primer ready for tiling, but now find that the primer is about 6 inches too far up the walls. I have lightly rubbed down the shinny surface but trying to emulsion over it is proving to be virtually impossible. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Central heating cock-up - is there an easy fix?

Once again, thanks fellas for all your advice – plenty for me to think about. In the good old days you just rolled back the carpet, cut the tongues out of a couple of boards and you were in business. Nowadays you have ceramic tiles that cost more than my car, under which are 8 by 4 sheets of...

Central heating cock-up - is there an easy fix?

Thanks guys for all your replies. If I fit a pump in the flow to the new rad, what happens when the TRV turns the rad off? Will this damage the pump? Also, Agile, where can I get a copy of the Grundfos pump plan?

Central heating cock-up - is there an easy fix?

We have a traditional vented C/H system with a boiler on the ground floor and an airing cupboard on the first floor containing the hot water cylinder and C/H pump feeding a Honeywell 3-way valve. I asked a local plumber to fit a new radiator in a ground floor extension, but there was no...

Blocked cold water feed to C/H system

Thanks for this. I have just added the cleaner, and will also fit a magnetic filter after it is flushed out tomorrow. Will then add Furnox MB1 or equivalent. Hopefully this will cure the problem.

Blocked cold water feed to C/H system

The cold water feed to my open vent C/H system was partially blocked, but I managed to free it by pushing air through from the tank in the attic. Checking with a magnet I find that there is considerable sludge build up in the 22mm pipe that connects the T from the cold water feed to the C/H...

    Is my boiler illegal?

Just to be sure that my boiler wasn't breaking any laws, and to pacify my wife, I phoned both the HSE and the Gas Safety Regulation Council (Tel 0800 408 5500) and spoke to their technical department. They told me that open flued boilers are not illegal in garages - the regulation was in fact...

    Is my boiler illegal?

Thanks for all your helpful comments. The original boiler was fitted in the kitchen which backs on to the garage, so it was a relatively simple job for the installer ( about 15 years ago) to knock through from the garage and pick up the lined chimney to the roof that the original boiler was...

    Is my boiler illegal?

I have an Ideal Standard Mexico 2 open flue boiler that was installed in my garage over 15 years ago by a then CORGI registered installer. Although still working well, we thought it may be time to invest in a more efficient boiler, and have been getting in a few quotes. One of the companies...

    Bosch Exxcel fridge freezer

Paul, I am not familiar with your model, but here is some general advice. The main body of the thermostat is behind the temperature control knob. Pull off the knob and check to see how the panel is attached. Unplug the fridge and remove the panel. The thermostat will consist of a matchbox...

    Bosch Exxcel fridge freezer

I assume the fridge-freezer has a single thermostat and a single motor (compressor). Is the motor running continuously or is it switching on and off? If it is switching on and off then probably the thermostat is faulty and replacing this is a straight forward DIY job. :) If it is running...

Indesit W123 washing machine bearing problem

I suspected as much - I've had another look since and can see the weld. So it's off to the tip and then search the internet for a better make machine. Thanks for your help.

Indesit W123 washing machine bearing problem

Hi, my 4 year old indesit W123 washing machine is making a noise like a jet engine, and am sure it's the front bearing that has collapsed. I've taken off the top and small back panel, but can't see any obvious way of splitting the drum. There is a join in the drum about one third of the way...
