    Adding Radiator to a Conservatory

Actually, I forgot how expensive Economy 7 can be to run during the day... Maybe not suitable for us...

    Adding Radiator to a Conservatory

Bummer! I wonder would an Economy 7 storage heater be cheaper than the 2kw oil filled electric radiators we currently use? Spotted these during my searches (https://www.heatershop.co.uk/rointe-kyros-kri1500radc2-770w-electric-conservatory-radiator-1330mm-15-elements) but I'm not sure if they...

    Adding Radiator to a Conservatory

Hi Our conservatory has no central heating; we tend to apply heating via electric oil-fired radiators. We're considering replacing the Polycarbonate roof with an insulated roof, but the heating thing is a bit of a quandary. My understanding of regulations was that, for a conservatory, any...

Painting Celing When There's Wallpaper On The Walls

Thanks mate. D'ya reckon we'll not get away with patching the paint then? Will we just be left with a very noticeable patch of whiter paint on the ceiling?

Painting Celing When There's Wallpaper On The Walls

Hi Our radiator developed a small leak the other night, and whilst it's all sorted now, I've noticed that we have a few water stains on the ceiling below the room where the trouble happened. That room had its ceiling last painted in around November 2005. So, I've a few questions... 1. Will...

    flaking paint on walls

Old thread, I know, but I've found myself in the same position. Have just spent the day stripping the walls in our spare room, to be greeted with the sight of flaking paint underneath. If I'm just gonna re-wallpaper the room, am I just going to need to sand most of the offending bits off so that...

    Plug Socket Replacement

Cheers guys. I think you're right JohnD. I've had a closer look at the sockets, and both have a hole underneath them for a wire to go into the load inputs, and neither socket has any wires going into the load. Does this mean that they were, more than likely, used for electric heaters (or...

    Plug Socket Replacement

Hi there Please excuse any naivity/ignorance on my part, but I'm redecorating a room, and 2 of the 3 plug sockets are of the "fused" variety: The wiring inside 'em looks like this (yes, the wires are dusty, aren't they!?): We've been here for over 2 years now, and they've...

    Slate Floor Tiles On Floorboards?

We've seen some rustic slate floor tiles we'd love for the kitchen, where the flooring is wooden boards (well, wooden sheeting from the looks of things). I was chatting to a guy in work about putting down slate floors, and he thought that even with flexible adhesive, you can't put slate floor...

    Disconnecting Sink From Mains Supply

Cheers for the ultra speedy reply!! Am I gonna have to go looking in specialist shops for these things, or would a hardware/diy shop be likely to stock 'em?

    Disconnecting Sink From Mains Supply

Hi We're getting a new kitchen installed on Monday, and will be spending the week taking out the current one. When it comes to the sink, I don't want to have to keep the mains supply off once we've taken the sink out. Probably a very simply question, but can I fit the pipes with valves...

Burning cable, what should i do??

[/url] Thanks for that!! I thought you'd be able to extend the cable as long as it went into a suitable junction box... That one's a 60amp, and the shower fuse is 45amp... Probably a VERY obvious answer, but I assume that I'd be alright to use a 60amp junction box with a 45amp fuse?

Burning cable, what should i do??

Okay, so the cables have melted a little at the end, and the cable from the shower is VERY short, and I don't think there's an awful lot of room for manouvre. Can I extend this cable by using a junction box or something, or do I have to totally replace the cable from the shower to the pull...

Burning cable, what should i do??

Thanks for that. It was a bit of a struggle getting the cover to screw back on once I'd rewired... Wouldn't surprise me if what you'd mentioned is exactly what's happened... Any expert tips on how to work with such thick cables??

Burning cable, what should i do??

It measured 17mm across and 10mm in thickness... Think that was the measurement of 10mm cable I saw somewhere. And, no offense taken!!

Burning cable, what should i do??

Hi, I've had the same problem recently with a Triton Ivory 9kw shower. I replaced the pull cord a few months back, and the smell went away. But I've noticed it recently. I've checked the size of the cable and it definitely looks like 10mm, so is it possible that the melting plastic is due...

    Reclaimed Brick Fireplace

Hi We're thinking of getting a new fireplace, and we've happened upon an image which is pretty much what we want: Now, as it's reclaimed brick, we're not gonna tackle it ourselves and instead, we'd be looking to get the professionals in. So here's my question: what sort of professional...

    Boiler Not Firing

Hi, At arouind 8.30 last night, we noticed that the radiators weren't hot when they should have been, and on further inspection, we realised we had ran out of oil. So we turned off the timer, and ordered a new supply of oil this morning which has arrived. However, I've put the central...

    Extractor Fan...

.. the time has come to fit an extractor fan in our bathroom. I'm no great shakes when it comes to electrics, so the thought of installing it myself fills me with fear! ... so we want to get someone in to do the whole job for us. The fan needs to be on the ceiling & ducted to the side wall of...
