1x Thermostatic valve to control 2 radiators?

Both rads will be installed on the same wall with a sofa inbetween. I'll calculate the combined BTU to be appropriate for the room. To me it make sense to have them work as a team and evenly distribute the heat. I don't want them to be in conflict with each other. Perhaps that wouldn't happen...

1x Thermostatic valve to control 2 radiators?

I'm hoping to install two radiators in the same room, with approx 2 metres between them. I'd like one of them to have a thermostatic radiator valve that controls both radiators, so that the two radiators act as a single unit. Is this possible? thanks

Extending my existing (water) underfloor heating

We had an extension to the house a few years ago and installed water central heating in the new concrete floor. This heats less that half of the floor space of the open plan kitchen / family room. The rest of the floor is the original house floor (un-insulated concrete slab). The builders broke...

replacing a concrete beam with steel

My builder used steel reinforced concrete beams instead of the specified steel I-beams. The concrete beams themselves are strong enough, but only 10cm of the concrete sits on a padstone, and it needs to be at least 15cm. The upshot is they need to come out and be replaced with steel. The span...

Kitchen cabinet install - leaving room for an integrated dishwasher

I'm fitting some kitchen base cabinets but need to leave space for a semi integrated dishwasher (600mm wide). Will I need to set the cabinets forward to ensure the cupboard doors / dishwasher appliance fascia are in line? Any other gotchas you can think of before I get started? thanks

Combi-boiler - adding hot water cylinder and back boiler

We currently have a Worcester Greenstar CDI 24 combi boiler. We recently had an extension and added an en-suite, so may have two showers running at the same time. The company that fitted the boiler are confident that the Worcester boiler will be able to heat enough water for both bathrooms. I...

Builder removed outer leaf of old external wall - safe?

the builder came and installed noggins between the joists + made them more secure where they sit on the wall (brick/slate infill between joists). However the floor is still very springy (rattling doors). The builder is coming back in Feb to install additional joists (going from 9 joists to...

Builder removed outer leaf of old external wall - safe?

if you mean the steel beam, then the beam itself it holding up the wall. The gaps above the beam between the joist have been filled in with brick & slate

Builder removed outer leaf of old external wall - safe?

the builder has fitted a new steel in the kitchen. He also bricked up the voids between the joists and installed noggins towards the mid-point of the joists. The floor is still very springy, so he's decided to install extra joists. He's not charging for any of it.

Builder removed outer leaf of old external wall - safe?

I didn't tell the builder to carry on regardless. I asked him to run it by the structural engineer. Later, after he'd done the work, I found out he hadn't. The structural engineer was recommended by the builder, as were all the other trades. I'm a computer programmer, so knew very little...

Builder removed outer leaf of old external wall - safe?

thanks for the replies. All the building control inspection is being carried out by a private company. I've arranged for final inspection & sign-off on Friday morning. I'll raise all the concerns with them then and see what they say. I'm also going to bring in a domestic structural engineer...

Builder removed outer leaf of old external wall - safe?

Some pictures of the work in progress no cross bracing between the joists, so the floor is now very springy. That movement makes me nervous - given my concern that the wall the joists are sitting on is flimsy. The brick below the steel was removed for the kitchen. Does the beam looks a...

Drawings & structural calculations do not account for the outer skin being removed.

Builder removed outer leaf of old external wall - safe?

I've recently had a two storey extension completed on my house. During the build process, my builder asked if I wanted the outer leaf of the old external wall removed (now an internal wall) to create extra space. I agreed. The floor joists for the new 1st floor and the old first floor sit on...
