Grouting job looks bigger than I thought

The plan was to re do the nasty looking/broken bits of grout but keep the existing tiles, our logic being the new residents would most likely prefer to have the bathroom fitted out to their own tastes so it seemed unnecessary to do more than make the existing tiling good. It's starting to look...

Grouting job looks bigger than I thought

Ok, I can see I might've worded that more clearly. We'd like to put the tiles back properly but would like to avoid the upheaval involved in retiling, replacing old timber etc if at all possible. But if that's what's needed then so be it. The timber was very wet. water would squeeze out of it...

Grouting job looks bigger than I thought

I'm not asking for advice on how to bodge the tiles up. I'd like to fix them up properly. My other half suggested fixing some plywood over the top and tiling on top of that as an easy way of getting the tiles back so we can use the shower again more quickly. I said we should probably at least...

Grouting job looks bigger than I thought

So I started this this morning, intending to remove the tired leaky silicone from the bath and replace the grout which had deteriorated. I found a few of the tiles were loose so lifted them up. The wood supporting them is totally soaked. It probably needs replaced to do things properly but...

    Have I done this properly?

Yes, I see what you mean. Thanks for pointing that out :-)

    Have I done this properly?

It does look that way in the photo but I'm sure it's secure. The end was previously doubled over. I was struggling to get the single earth wire to reach the new terminal so I tried bending out the end to get a little more length. I succeeded in breaking the end off. I managed to get the wire...

    Have I done this properly?

You might, but apart from the new socket everything else is as it was. Is there supposed to be a vital grommet to stop the insulation rubbing?

    Have I done this properly?

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure if only one was connected it's leave the socket on the other side unearthed. Cheers :-)

    Have I done this properly?

I replaced an old double plug socket with a newer, nicer looking one. The old socket had one earth connection with three wires going into it.The new one has two connections and I wasn't sure whether it matters which wire going into which socket. I guessed it'd be better to have at least one...

How can I fix a small crack in a plastic bath

Thanks for that. The outside surface of the bath, the that is supposed to stay dry is already quite rough. It looks like the rough side of a fibreglass boat for example. Would I need to rub that flat before applying the sheet and resin?

How can I fix a small crack in a plastic bath

Ok thanks, that's good to know it can at least be mended. I've not used fibreglass matting before but I'm sure I can find out easily how to prepare and use it properly. So how big can the hole be before it's too big?

How can I fix a small crack in a plastic bath

Hi all, I have a plastic (acrylic?) bath which is about 7 years old. It has been damaged by one of those cheap wire soap dishes that attach to the wall tiles using suckers falling into it. There's a chip on the inside of the bath and a small crack through to the other side, small but big enough...

How to dry this flood soaked wall?

    Not unless it's absolutely necessary.

How to dry this flood soaked wall?

As far as we can tell the flood was the result of a Seagulls nest which unbeknown to us had been built on our chimney and subsequently dislodged by strong wind. The pieces of broken nest ended up blocking the drain and so the valley between the two houses gradually filled with water until it...

How to dry this flood soaked wall?

We've got an oscillating room fan blowing on the wall now and are keeping the window open as much as possible. The insurance company say the flood was caused by lack of maintenance and therefore we're not covered for anything resulting from it.

    Toilet trouble

HA ha, yes, fair comment :-)

    Toilet trouble

It's not that old, maybe 7 years. I'd have thought it'd have a good few years use left in it yet and maybe a bit of lube would keep it working but I take your point re emergency call outs. I guess the expense of a new cistern valve every 5 years is preferable to paying a plumber to come out at 3am.

    Toilet trouble

Thanks newboy. Will get a look at that. Does the housing at the end of the cable just twist off somehow to enable me to spray lube inside the cable outer? Do I need to use silicone stuff or would WD40/ACF 50 do the same job? I have both of those but no silicone. If I need to twist the valve...

How to dry this flood soaked wall?

Thanks :-) We tried that but it's slow going cold and draughty. Perhaps patience and perseverance combined with extra layers of clothing are all that's needed.
