Need some help on a Riello RDB3 oil burner please

Thanks folks! I tried bleeding it again this morning. Got some more bubbly oil out.....and it has just fired up and seems to be running. Must have been just more air in the feed line, although when I used the vacuum bleeder to pull oil through yesterday it didn't appear that way!

Need some help on a Riello RDB3 oil burner please

Hi All, The boiler is a Grant Euroflame with a Riello RDB3 burner. So, we ran out of oil this week. I have since put 160 litres of oil in the tank now and am waiting on my scheduled delivery next week to fill the damn thing up again. Bad timing.... But the bloody thing still won't fire up. I...

Best screws for fixing gate wall plate to OSB

Hi All, I am going to be fixing a garden gate to a gap currently between a brick wall and the back of a conservatory. The gate hinges themselves will be fixed to a wall plate attached to the brick wall with 8 masonry screws (M10 x 150mm), but I do need to add a wall plate to the back of the...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

Right - that's that fixed and working perfectly again. Turned out it was a marginal (but not quite dead) photocell in the boiler.....it was borderline enough that sometimes it worked and other times it didn't, so the boiler was firing some times, bit not always. Replaced with a new one for...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

I think I've actually traced the fault here to the boiler and not the HW cylinder circulation. It's strange, but I think the problem is that the boiler isn't reliably firing up. Most of the time, it's making noise, but the piping isn't getting hot.....then sometimes it does! I think that...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

Looking (and listening) a bit more......it might be that the boiler isn't igniting properly on demand. It sounds as if it's working - but then it's a got a fan in it which is probably what I'm hearing.....but I'm not getting the "whoosh" it normally makes. This is weird as it must be...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

Weird.....I've just drawn off a good bathful of hot water - I was assuming that the water in the cylinder was already hot, so the boiler wasn't needed to heat it up. Anyway - now the top pipe is a bit warmer and the bottom pipe is cold - which makes sense as the cylinder is now full of cold...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

Thanks John - very useful. I hear you on the Climaflex and will definitely do that once it's sorted. As for converting from gravity to pumped, would that be a simple as cutting the flow (or return) on the HW circuit and putting another pump in series wired to come on when the HW was on...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

Hmmm...boiler's been on for a while now and both pipes are warm - but neither is hot at all. So - are the two pipes going in on the left hand side of the cylinder the flow (top?) and return (bottom?) of the heat exchange coil in the cylinder? Which would make the pipe on the very top of...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

Here's some pics: Here's the expansion tank Left hand side of the boiler - 2 22mm pipes coming out. Drain cock is off the bottom one so i guess that's the cold water infill. Also the pump is in this pipe. The slanting bit of 15mm in the picture is just a spare bit of loose pipe - not...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

John, All done....no issues. I tied up the ball valve, then drained about 10L from the drain cock. Checked the expansion tank and it had emptied down. Untied the ball valve and it fills back to the original level and stops. Seems the feed works OK. While I was up there, I traced the...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

Thanks. So there's 2 pipes from the tank - one I presume is the vent as it's plumbed to just hang over the expansion tank. The other which I presume to be the feed comes out of the bottom of the tank....so i need to trace that to the first "T" point on it - which would be the likely...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

Okey Dokey ......all done! heres the answers: 1) Expansion tank has approx 4.5 inches of water in it, with maybe a quarter inch of brown muck on the bottom of it. The outlet from the expansion tank appears to be clear, and the thing refills happily when the ball is pressed down. 2) Highest...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

I don't know the answer to that as the top of the cylinder is hidden inside a cupboard, but I'll pull it apart and have a look. An airlock would make sense though - I guess the copper pipe itself would conduct heat and eventually heat the cylinder even if the water wasn't flowing....and the...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

Thanks - do you mean the feed/vent that goes to and from the expansion tank in the loft? I've got no problem cutting pipe as long as i can find the blockage if there is one. Would it be worth doing a powerflush on the system in this case?

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

Ummm....good question (goes off to check....) Right - there don't appear to be ANY motorised valves at all! From the right side of the boiler, there are two thick (1"?) pipes that look as if they to and from the hot water cylinder. One at the top and one at the bottom of the boiler. On...

Boiler not heating hot water tank! Any ideas?

Hi There, First post here, so please be gentle.... Anyway, my house has a Grant Eurotherm oil fired central heating boiler running an open vented system with a single hot water tank and 12 rads. Recently though, it has started taking an extremely long time to heat the water in the hot...
