    Changing a 16th edition CU

I understand what your saying but as i said in a previous post i was planning on going with the rcbo's anyway, which as you've said is the best solution. The only reason i came onto a diy site is because the electrical forum's i go on take a while to answer and i was just after other peoples...

    Changing a 16th edition CU

???? Anyway i'm probably gonna go with the rcbo option and split it up so sockets downstairs and lights up are seperate.

    Changing a 16th edition CU

Yes i am and that is the answer i was expecting as that is what i would do if i were to install a 17th edition consumer unit but as i'm young and learning and like to have reassurance that what i am doing is correct then i come here instead of making a mistake. Also i like to hear other peoples...

    Changing a 16th edition CU

Thanks for the reply i understand what you mean. I think they have 3 lighting circuits, 1 cooker, 3 rings, 1 smoke and 1 boiler circuit in the house so as long as i could put the say upstairs lights and downstairs rings on rcbo's then the rest would be ok to go on the rcd side? This would...

    Changing a 16th edition CU

I've been asked to finish a job that was started a few years ago the only problem is when the job was started the 16th edition regs were in place, So the consumer units that were fitted at this time are also only up to 16th edition regs and so some of the circuits have no rcd protection. My idea...

    Towel rail ip 21

I've recently done a periodic report for a friend of mine who is selling his house. When i was looking round the bathroom i noticed that the electrician who had previously done the work had installed a towel rail in zone 2 of the bathroom, which originaly i thought would be ok as the switch for...

    Broken immersion heater

My mate has asked me to go round his house and see whats wrong with his immersion heater, he said he's changed the thermostat on it but that only lasted a couple of days and now its stopped working again. I haven't done anything with an immersion heater for years and so can't remeber much about...

    Obsolete RCBO's

Ok, well i think i'll go with the original idea then :) . Also will any double pole rcd work so long as its 30mA. Does it matter if the rcd is rated at 80amps? So long as the cable runs through the 6 amp mcb first of all.

    Fire hoods above downlights

What do you mean by fitting body? As there is nothing above the lamp is there any danger of the fire spreading this way?

    Fire hoods above downlights

It is yeah. I didn't realise that so if say you were putting downlights that were also fire rated but had no hood into a ceiling with a void of about 1 metre above it would this then be ok?

    Fire hoods above downlights

Sorry mate there the 'JCC Fireguard range' think the model number is jc94003. Its got plastered all over the box that they are fire rated but i'm just wondering because of there being no hood and it being between ceiling and floor.

    Fire hoods above downlights

Apologise if this has been asked before, but i recently ordered some fire rated 12v downlights for the bathroom but when i received them i noticed that there is no in built hood on them like the non bathroom rated ones. Does this mean that i have to add my own hood or, like a technical advice...

    Obsolete RCBO's

Thanks for your help, that's what i was planning on doing but was gonna do it with an rcbo and was just wondering about the prices.

    Obsolete RCBO's

Is that just a double pole rcd? The cables are twin and earth pvc/pvc and are capped down some walls.

    Obsolete RCBO's

I've been asked to extend a lighting circuit for someone, which will obviously mean putting the lighting circuit onto an RCBO. The only problem is the consumer unit is a square d qwikline, but the older version, and when i rang the wholesaler they told me that the older version of this make is...

    Fault on existing lighting circuit

It's just a cheap spotlight, although when i looked at the lamp holder i could see no sign of damage. Which makes me think i'm going to have to re-wire the circuit.
