    Drain smell in house!

Thanks for the reply - None on the middle floor - bathrooms are up stairs, kitchen downstairs…those rooms don’t smell! I’ve been expecting to maybe see a stain on the ceiling or a wall somewhere but there’s nothing showing!

    Drain smell in house!

Evening all. We’ve started getting a drain smell in and around our lounge/staircase. For info, house is 15ish years old, 3 floor townhouse with the problem around the middle floor. There is a bathroom and en suite on floor above. I’ve tried an off the shelf drain cleaner for the shower as that...

    Corroded hot water expansion pipe

I havent been back to sort it yet (i Thanks for the replies yesterday. I’ve cut it out and on further inspection it was what you described. Out of interest, what is pitting - and what causes it? A relative of mine reckons (bear with me) that about 25 years ago, the uk imported batches of...

    Corroded hot water expansion pipe

That’s the thing - it’s corroded in the loft near the tank, nothing up there but insulation and a few suitcases! I’m wondering if some old flux has eaten away over the years. The pipe is a bit green where the holes are.

    Corroded hot water expansion pipe

Hi, thanks for the reply - it’s the pipe that goes up and over through the lid of the HW tank. The holes are straight through the copper - not on a joint or dodgy fitting which was my first thought!

    Corroded hot water expansion pipe

I’ve got a y plan system and have found pinholes on the hot water tank expansion pipe (and a leaking ceiling). I’ll replace it but am wondering if this is a symptom of something badly wrong?! It’s about 25 years old with an ideal classic that has been a bit noisy lately. Any advice?

    Resol Deltasol solar controller

Hello, Has anyone had any dealings with this controller? It's a Resol Deltasol for solar thermal store and is not switching the solar pump on. It's attached to a gas boiler and cylinder with 3 port and the HW works fine running with gas. There's a mode switch underneath with I / Auto / 0 and...

    Winter is coming...frozen condensate pipes!

Just a quick heads-up - I was looking round for a way to stop my mum's condensate pipe from freezing up (as per last year)! A gas installer friend pointed me to one of these ICE valves...

    Frozen condensate pipe...A discussion...

Sorry, i did mean a temporary fix! I looked through an old Vaillant Ecomax manufacturers instructions, it pretty much advises to run internally unless totally avaoidable, but, they have big 150mm siphons, so surely they would be safe to drain into a bucket...? but on the other hand, an Ideal...

    Frozen condensate pipe...A discussion...

Thanks Simon, im sure a couple of older models i know of could do the same...but, again, what is the difference between these boilers leaking PoC into a bucket, or out through an air-break? Gas Safe couldnt clarify it!

    Frozen condensate pipe...A discussion...

ive heard of engineers cutting the condensate drain underneath the boiler and letting it drip into a bucket to get boilers working again (especially when the boiler is 1/2 floors up and thawing isnt an option) i wonder if any of the boiler manufacturers would actually give the green light to...

    Frozen condensate pipe...A discussion...

Evening, Just to end an argument, ive been trying to find out, just what is wrong with cutting a blocked condensate pipe caused by freezing! Now, we all know that we should try to run them internally, and if they must run outside, fall as steeply as possible with as thick a pipe diameter...
