Salamander Pump onlw works when I wave a magnet to operate the internal reed switch.

Thanks DP, thing is, if it’s a choice between wrecking a pump (with a stupid design flaw) or spending a lifetime waving magnets near it I think I’ll take my chances !

How does BT run fibre cable to property ? Virgin did at least bury their cable alongside the drive even if it was only 6ins deep.

Thanks Exedon. Yes, very hard water. Have taped a magnet to the “sweet spot” on the pump casing and it seems to be working so far.

Salamander Pump onlw works when I wave a magnet to operate the internal reed switch.

Livng in a bungalow theres little head of water to the kitchen sink, so purchased a Salamander pump to boost the hot water to tap. Worked perfectly for 6 months but now the only way to get it to kick in is to wave a strong permanent magnet on the end of a wand near the end of the unit. Now, what...

    Wall Chasing/Conduit Query

There must be hundreds of miles of domestic buried in plastered walls at all kind of angles. We never used to consider "zones" years ago, and the sky didn't fall in. Having said that in future before drilling a wall have a cable detector run a pass.

    Cold Kitchen Floor

I would like some advice on insulating my kitchen floor please. I have ceramic tiles laid on a sound and dry 50mm screed, but during the winter the room is always cold. I'm quite prepared to lift the screed to accommodate an insulation material, but there are pipes crossing the floor buried in...

    tanalised wood and woodworm

It sounds a bit like Wickes. Often it's difficult to find decent timber because the lengths have been picked over and over until only the crap stuff is left on display. Some should never have been put out there, but some mug will always buy it.

    Door opens if not latched.

Hi, I want to stop my bathroom door opening on its own accord. I thought there was a problem with the door frame being out of plumb, but cannot find evidence of this being the case. Of course if closed all the way it latches and stays there but it always swings back towards the wall if not. I...

    Electric clock

    Nuisance tripping

What is the correct way to install an outside rcd socket ? 1). Connect to ring main, but when test button is pressed it takes out whole of the house because both main and socket are 30ma rated. 2) Replace main RCD in consumer unit with a higher rated tripping current. 3) Use an...

    Downpipe size adapter

Why are there no reducing couplings on the market to accommodate the old sized round 65mm to 68mm downpipe. And vice-versa ? Plenty of square -round jobbies but surely you don't have to replace every fitting. We're talking plastic here guys.

    Cupboard Doors

I have two sets of cupboard doors in the house. Both are of hollow construction and in both cases the Right hand door won't shut because they're slightly warped. I've been looking for a strong catch to hold it in place, but so far drawn a blank. Ideally I would like one of those closers where...

    Main Earth Terminal

The supply comes in to the building at door top height. It's one in the middle of a terrace and shares the run with next door the run being fixed beneath the gutter board which is fed out of the ground at the start of the run. Can't see any notices though.

    Main Earth Terminal

My property has an incoming main supply but the cut out has no earth terminal. Whom do I approach to get one fitted ? My neighbours who are on the same supply network have one on their cut out. Is it the company who supplies the fuel or a separate concern ?
