Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

Well, tampers with external bell boxes have been fairly common on commercial and high end domestic for a while. Masking detectors in commercial isn't unheard of either. There are more intelligent criminals about.

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

I do wonder what causes people to totally misrepresent the argument of the other party. The only person convinced they are right is them. It's really strange.

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

"A simple OOK transmitter, modulated using a 555 timer would do the job for proactive jamming." That's not impossible. "It sounds like alarms should be triggered by proactive jamming, doesn’t it? Strangely enough, a lot aren’t. This goes from cheap consumer alarms all the way up to graded...

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

Paul - what's most disturbing is that you've taken to fabricating things to make your point. Most people would be best to install a proper lock on their gate, rather than a padlock. It's pointless for most people to buy a big padlock for their garden gate, as it will cost a lot more than a...

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

So, John, where is your line for something being too insecure for it to be installed in yur house? Is there a reason you wilfully ignored the clear statement in the blog of "If you already have a wireless alarm, don’t panic. We are not seeing these attacks carried out in the wild"

Odd, you keep on replying though, so you obviously have some interest.

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

I just think it's odd to put up a strawman given that the original post very clearly says we don't think it's happening. Just that it can, and there are ways to avoid this. Yes, I've noticed a trend for people to call "thinking about the worst" scaremongering, as if they aren't able to read and...

What can we assume about your reluctance to answer the question about those three devices?

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

I answered this already, very, very clearly and recently. //www.diynot.com/diy/threads/alarm-insecurity-jamming-replaying-and-brute-forcing-on-the-yale-hsa6400.462065/page-9#post-3681323 I'm not asking you to replace the alarm, I'm asking if you if the security risks presented by those...

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

So John, would you install these in your house? Encryption totally token? http://cybergibbons.com/alarms-2/multiple-serious-vulnerabilities-in-rsi-videofieds-alarm-protocol/ Backdoor root account? http://cybergibbons.com/alarms-2/backdoor-root-account-on-visonic-powerlink-2-modules/ Backdoor...

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

Drones? No, I have absolutely no idea why you think I think that. Jammers? No, I have no idea, and I don't suspect so, as I explicitly state in the original blog post. Is unintentional jamming a problem? Yes. The point is it is possible to do this, and good design would mean that it isn't. As...

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

No, John, it just says that some places have a significant number of burglaries, and that you can't infer how entry was gained from that.

    There's 15! https://www.police.uk/metropolitan/E05000496/crime/2015-12/burglary/ Must be drones.

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

I can't see how the number of burglaries has any link to the mechanism used to carry them out. I doubt anyone else can either. You've picked areas with low rates of burglary.

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

Yes, but you aren't trying to do that. You are posting a link to a PDF that doesn't mention burglary, and a link to site showing burglaries in Bedford - nothing to do with drones or jammers. How could you possibly correlate a pocket of burglaries with jammer usage?

Alarm insecurity - jamming, replaying and brute-forcing on the Yale HSA6400

So you do appear to be denying that burglary is an issue in the UK. Awesome.

You clearly said "no sign of pockets of car crime or burglary"...
